Great posts everyone! All the above and I would add that even with all our differences we still pull together when we have to.

The fact that we haven't put all gays, non-Christians, foreigners, and political liberals into concentration camps...which would happen if some people on this forum had their way.

Easily the best thing about this country is its constitution. Let us protect it against all forces - external terrorists and some internal ones that want this to become a theocratic nation. We do need to wrestle our voices back from the grips of money that has bought out our politicians. Without a strong, fair constitution and democracy, we will eventually become a third rate country.

Default I must confess one of my favorite subjects!

While I could quickly say our strength is the obvious answer I think it best to further elaborate on our strengths.

1.) Our founding faith.

2.) The love we extend to one another often overflows to the rest of the world.

3) Yes, even stewardship. (I better find my body pads I might take some hits for that one )

4.) My personal favorite, our steadfast and boundless potential! America the beautiful, you are indeed.

P.S. Mr. Henry Louis "Skip" Gates Jr. thank you!

Tough to pick one, I'll make a list of things off the top of my head. Residing in foreign countries really makes you appreciate the strengths of our country.

1. Representative elected government.
2. Freedom of speech/thought/assembly/etc.
3. Optimism.
4. Enormous diversity of race, religion, background, lifestyle, and even geography, yet somehow cohesive.
5. A tradition or acceptance of individualism in everything; life, work, sports, etc.

6. Obscenely large portions of bland greasy/fatty/meaty/boneless/cheesy food served with a big glass of ICE water and some french fries 'cause there weren't enough calories already. Then maybe add a milkshake or coke, and a dessert so sweet afterwards that you have to have it with ice cream to make the sweetness less overpowering, why not?

The opportunity - the fact that this country has provided for me the opportunity to create a fulfilling life in stark contrast to the very real and literal alternative of working on a rice paddy in Vietnam.
