“The U.S. welfare-warfare state is not the result of any one political party’s agenda. The Republican Party and the Democratic Party have cooperated to achieve this result. Republicans passed the largest entitlement expansion since LBJ in 2003. Democrats have just proposed the largest military budget in the history of mankind. It isn’t easy to run the National Debt from $5.7 trillion in 2000 to $13.1 trillion today. It takes cooperation and mutual ineptitude on the part of both parties to achieve such a spectacular result. $30 billion unfunded unemployment extensions are attached to bills to pay for the war in Afghanistan. If you vote against the bill, you are not supporting our troops and you want to kick people out into the street. The two sides pretend to offer alternatives to the American people, but their agendas coincide:
“Mystical references to society and its programs to help may warm the hearts of the gullible but what it really means is putting more power in the hands of bureaucrats.” – Thomas Sowell
The hard truth is that every human life ends in a tragedy. There is no amount of money that can be spent by government bureaucrats to alter this fact. Baby Boomers can keep running on their treadmills, popping vitamins, and trying to stay a step ahead of the grim reaper, but the grave beckons. The real tragedy is that because of the fiscal irresponsibility of politicians and the Boomer generation, future generations of Americans will for the first time in U.S. history have a lower standard of living than their parents. The wealth of the nation has been frittered away by statists and war mongers. The current fiscal path of the country is unsustainable”.

Agreed. Washington politicians are the problem, as they have grown accustomed to insane spending and are bankrupting the nation. The congressional dems have been much worse than republicans over the last 50 years, but republicans as well have been on a spending spree.

We need true fiscal conservatives (regardless of whether they have a "D" or an "R" on thier cap), as we will need austerity measures and massive spending cuts after Obama and Pelosi are gone.

The reason why both parties carry out LBJ's guns and butter is that is what the people want.Lets take your butter {R}s they did stand up and try to get UE beni's paid for but you never heard not one {R} leader,Rush or candidate Angle talk about a firm cut off date. As long as it is payed for the {R}s are on board for another entitlement program. Then in the next breath these same butter {R}s talk about how entitlement programs in there current form are unsubstainable and need to cut or raise the retirement age, means test and taxing those that do not need SS.
I see hypocrisy you are for starting another entitlement and trying to save another. But what can [R}s do ? you know if they really acted conservative and forced harsh austerity measures the I WANT MY BUTTER electorate would throw them out in droves and install the butter {D}s.
One of the founders said to the effect of they gave us a republic now if the can keep it.And to answer that we lost that form of gvt and traded it for a tyrannical all powerful centralized gvt and then there are the states. We were never meant to be all thrown together but now that we have the majority of us want our butter and we will support theft to get it.
