Tribalism is an interesting theory, but it's incomplete. McClelland's theory of motivation offers a more comprehensive application. Tribalism essentially falls under McClelland's "need for affiliation." When McClelland's theory was applied to nations, it was Third World nations that evinced the affiliation motive, and Old World nations that evinced the power motivation. While we as individuals all switch from mode to mode, various personality types tend to show a clear preference for what motivates them. Personally, I think that, like all things, the motivations that drive us tend to be cyclical.

Marx? As if collectivism was his invention and limited only to his ideas regarding the economy.

Anyway, there will always be old geezers stuck in their ways and their refusal for anything different. But, if you look into China and Japan, the differences are no longer undesirable. If anything, it is now threatening to change a lot.

The Chinese government. Their immigration policy is nowhere near as liberal as that of the U.S, Hence the lack of racial diversity in China. Hence why you don't see Chinese people that racially look like William Shatner or Whitney Houston.
