so the rich should support the not rich. I guess if we lived in a communistic country this would work, but most of us have learned to work for what we get. Why would someone bother to save, prepare for retirement or push for success if they are going to have to give it back to those who have choesn not to do this. Why shouldn't who are successful choose how and who they want to help?

So? Of course they're valuable and all work is good. Not only that, work is good for them. Let them keep on being secretaries, janitors, taxi drivers, retail clerks, meat processing plant workers, assembly line workers, teachers, nurses, bank tellers...and the like and being valuable to society until they're 70 - or more.

And no one is saying they can't save up money and retire earlier - they don't HAVE to wait for a government check.

Go society! Wooooohooooo!!!
Exactly!! ALL people are valuable, all people should contribute, all people benefit from being productive.

There is no reason at all to toss out the older or the disabled. People can still contribute, still be of value unless they're in a vegetative state or have an IQ of a fish.

Just let them know the very wealthy do it - and then they'll DEMAND the poor have the same rights - to go on working.

Tycoons Still Working It Past 90 - Forbes.com

Seventeen members of the Forbes Billionaires List are 90 and older, and many still play hands-on roles in their businesses and investments, including casino mogul Kirk Kerkorian, oil and gas driller Bill "Tex" Moncrief Jr. and Topa Equities' John Anderson.

I would like to plop one of those billionaires onto an assembly line for 8 hours in 90+ degree heat and see how long they would last.

Why not just raise the retirement age to 99 for everyone who isn't retired TODAY? Why not raise the Social Security tax to 50%? Or 80%?

For what laudable goal? As stated in the OP, "Ensuring there's enough money to pay for the war."

I'm certainly willing to work until I drop dead, so our government can continue waging idiotic, unwinnable wins in a series of foreign nests of savages. Aren't you?

Granted there probably will have to be some changes to the social security down the road to insure viability for years to come.

Why doesnt Boehner and the other tea partiers suggest as one of the changes that people who are well off and dont need social security can respectfully decline their future ss entitlement and can advise the system of this years ahead of time so the financial projections can change accordingly.

Let the Chardonay sippers, patte tasters, and country club boozers catergorically decline their entitlements selflessy now to back their bravado. I can understand a lot of the tea partiers distaste for spiraling and out of control government-----their are many problems to address. Yet let these same people step to the forefront immediately and inform the government that they are declining all their future entitlements-----come on guys what are you waiting for??????
