Israel to buy world's most advanced warplane - Yahoo! News (http://news.yahoo.com/s/afp/20100815/wl_mideast_afp/israelusdefenceweaponslockheed - broken link)
JERUSALEM (AFP) – Israel's Defence Minister Ehud Barak on Sunday approved the purchase of a fleet of US-built F-35 strike fighters in a move set to ramp up the capabilities of the Israeli Air Force.
The minister "approved in principle" a recommendation by the military to purchase the F-35 or Joint Strike Fighter (JSF), a statement from his office said.
Israel is initially expected to buy 20 of the aircraft in a deal worth an estimated 2.75 billion dollars, the top-selling Yediot Aharonot daily said in several reports published last week.
This is the preferred route. No more RINO inspired socialist welfare to Israel. If they want it, they'll have to get it the old fashioned way...buy the damn thing!

It is definetly good news for Lockheed Martin, the manufacturer of F35. I guess it paid off to bail them out (by Nixon) back in the day.
Are these aircraft being purchased with Israeli money or with American money given to them as aid? If the Israelis want state of the art warplanes and weapons they should build their own.
Keeping armament companies in business is just a form of industrial welfare that provides many good jobs and high profits. Buying weapons with government money is acceptable to the right wing when spending the same amount of money on low income housing is pure evil.
