I was having a conversation with an older guy a few days back and he made an interesting observation when discussing the whole ground zero mosque debate. He said he could care less what a Muslim in New York did, his concern was the guy that just moved in down the street with an Obama bumper sticker on his car. When I asked him to clarfiy what he meant he stated very simply that his enemy wasnt someone a thousand miles away but the scum, as he put it, that supports Obama that was now on his block.

Now I know that isnt unique to people against Obama, the rabid anti-Bush lefties were just as bad. So I ask the question. Who do you feel is more of a threat to you. Some foreign terrorist or country like Iran or your neighbor that voted for Obama or former President Bush.

It's like something out of Orwell's 1984. Now we're at war with Eastasia. Now we're at war with Eurasia.

North Korea, North Vietnam, Iraq, Iran. Five enemies in a little less than half a century. And if you throw in Joe McCarthy's communist hunts, that's six. Al Qaeda and the Taliban runs the count up to eight. The enemy is always changing... (I can hardly wait to find out who it's going to be next year!)

The greatest enemies to this country are those "true patriots" spouting off that America not accept any Muslims. There are quite a few of them on here and I've unfortunately found that many of my high school friends feel the same.

Iran, North Korea, etc etc- they will have light work to make of a country so divided.

The enemy are those that wrap themselves in the flag while deriding the principles for which it stands.

None of them are a threat to me. I do not chose to live my life looking for 'enemies' and I think that this need to define someone as an 'enemy' has become absolutely pathological. And very, very sad.

Some of my closest friends and family members voted for President Bush and/or for Sen. McCain. They do not perceive me as the enemy nor I them. We are people who make decisions based on what we perceive to be best for ourselves and our families.
And, believe it not, we do find common ground and agree on many of the things that need to be fixed, changed, improved in this country even if we do not always agree on how to address them.
My parents lived through the McCarthy era and they said it was the absolute worst of times - families torn apart, people deprived of their livelihoods...
Why do so many seem to want to return to that?

the enemy within, the one that says vote for me and i will fight for fiscal responsibility, social and economic justice, etc. the one that claims to know the constitution, and then does everything they can to shred said document.

outside enemies we do have to keep an eye on, it is the insiders that are insidious.

Try growing up here Jewish and it won't be particularly unclear.

I have only negative impressions of this place. On the other hand, growing up here gave me good training on how evil people can be because others are different. It is clear that many here need to experience being a hated minority once in their life- maybe they wouldn't be so nasty to others.
