Like any "Best" contest, there is much debate to be had about the results. But I am sure that Newsweeks findings (late August 2010 mag) should provide some fodder for good discussion:

The World's Best Countries - Newsweek

I don't know. Good question. However, despite the dreadful winter and horrendous suicide rate, I don't doubt that the staff of Newsweek would find true joy living and working in Finland and her sister countries.

By the way, just because Finland rates highest doesn't mean that Newsweek should relocate there.

Ever been to Finland?

Perhaps the Harman companies were looking for a loser as a tax write-off when they purchased Newsweek from the Washington Post last month.

That's funny, a new student in my DD's school is from there. The school is private, though.

Guess an American private school still beats Kazakstan's educational system.

So Finland is the best country for people other than them to live in?

Never have been there, would like to have seen it. But I'm not a fan of cold weather.

The differences between the first 20 or so in each category are actually not that big, it probably doesn't really matter if someone's country ranks 5th or 15th.
I prefer my current country ranked 27th to Finland anytime

The concept of the ratings is not that it would be the best country for people other than them to live in.

In fact, unless you are an American who knows Alaska weather, or midwest Winters, I would not suggest it. You could possibly end up being such a whiny miserable mess that they would regret hosting you anyway.

It takes serious stamina to live , and succeed, in many regions on Earth. If you cant take the heat (or extreme cold), get the f. out. Nobody wants your mediocre efforts.
