The cornestore of socialism is the Social Security system.

Founded at 1935,in syncronisation with the rise of socialists ( & ...national-socialists ) in Europe.

The program was "enriched" in 1965 with
socialised medicine for the elderly ( Medicare)
& "charity " medicine ( Medicaid).

Almost all Dems support the current system,
in fact many want it more..."progressive".

Republicans are divided.

The leftwing supports SS,only wants technical improvements.

The rightwing only talk about reform, partial privatisation ,what
ever.

What is your opinion on the subject
& what are your proposals for alternative systems,
more socialised or more capitalistic...

You may vote too...

Let's end welfare for the elderly. If they weren't responsible enough to plan for their own future's let them deal with the consequences.

The elderly are so lazy. They are always walking around looking sloppy. They don't keep their homes well and they are a drain on society.

Let's segregate them.

I'm actively looking for a way to have my children, one which will start working in 2 years, to opt out of SS.

That's my solution.

Opt out.

Unfortunately, the current SS system works only if it is fed by ALL working people, all taxpayers...

Opt out seems logical but it is not realistic...

Welcome to the nature of socialism, only "works" if all people are taxed...

I think they should do some serious streamlining of SS to make sure money is not wasted and that we have enough money in it to support future generations. I don't see that happening though.

If you eliminate Social Security, and Medicare then America essentially becomes a third world country. We may be on that trajectory anyway with a inadequate educational system, a growing gap between the rich and poor, poor wage and economic growth and ineffective government.

No choice available for ending forced SS contributions for those entering the workforce now and allowing it to die a very ugly but natural death.

Personally,I believe in sensible partial privatisation,
offering choice to the taxpayers,
from zero-risk / (practically) no yield programs
to low-risk/low (potential) yield programs.

The basic program,zero-risk/ no yield, would be secured only on government securities.
Zero risk but barely matching real inflation...

Other programs could go up to 70:30,gov securities/private sector securities...

Social Security and Medicare are the backbone of a capitalist society. We would have very, very low consumer spending if there were no Social Security and Medicare. Without consumer spending the economy would shrink into insignificance.

China is a nominally Communist county with no social safety net. What are they doing right now? Trying to craft a social security and healthcare system so that they can become fully capitalist economy, like Japan.

Exactly it's amazing how many people in this country want to take it BACKWARD. Just about every major industrial economy in the World has some sort of social security system and provides some sort of medical benefits to the elderly.

If you eliminate social security and medicare then forget about calling America one of the best countries in the world. It simply won't be anymore.
