It's not adjusting to the times. Most of my conservative friends believe Ron Paul is far too extreme right almost whack-o right. What Tea Party fiasco? No, I'm sorry, most of the Tea Parties are made up of younger to middle aged and there's no differentiating the true meaning of conservative. That is Liberal thinking and no conservative could/would make such a statement. Common sense morals, fiscal responsibility and giving a hand up not a hand out is something that is timeless and foriegn to most Liberals thinking.

Some of us dont mind big government and lots of social programs..
Well what a shocker!!! 42% of people are now relying on such programs. What happens when 100% are? Will Europe be paying for them then? That's about as sensible as Pelosi saying that unemployment is the fastest way to create jobs. Does she actually know what she's going to say before she says it? Frank "there's nothing wrong with FanMae and FredMac", I wont raise taxes on anyone earning $250,000 or less (now down to 200K) and he didnt say anyting about letting tak breaks expire.

You do know that our financial crisis was kick started by toxic loans made to low income earners who were given loans through forced social leveling? That was Clinton's baby and he even says it was a very bad idea. Moving on to the next really bad idea please.

You actually like this type of usury, idiotic and incompetent governing? Do you live in the US?

Well said. Why is there always the assumption that liberals earn minimum wage and live in a trailer?
On the contrary, that's exactly the opposite of what most conservatives believe. We are quite aware that a large percentage of the dems voters are empoverished, but only from their reliance on those programs that are keeping them poor. The more programs there are the more graff there will be. PLEASE find the threads on the Los Angeles Stimulus and how my city stole $120M

This might be worth a read regardless of your political preference

.
Yeah right same old rightwing song and dance = Americans are so lazy and devoid of personal integrity that they are all going to stop working and rely on government handouts to support themselves,,Much faith in your fellow Americans? thought not.
As for Clinton signing a bill making it easy to get loans? if it was such a bad piece of legislation Bush had 8 years to repeal the bill,he did nothing, sound familiar?.
As for your opinion of idiotic and incompetent governing? my opinion differs
And no i dont live in the USA i live in Canada and if it wasnt for the fact that if America sinks its going to drag Canada down with it i really wouldnt be interested in your nations current petty political hysteria.

Lightbulb Over 35 years old? Have you become more conservative in your viewpoints as you aged?

Not really.

I have a mixture of conservative and liberal viewpoints. But over the years, I've tended to vote for more Republicans at election time. No more. Lately, I find myself mostly in strong opposition to willful ignorance and mass stupidity, which have become the prime characteristics of GOP politics.

I suppose I'm becoming less stupid.

To the OP--less conservative. But, I'm a mongrel--mixed viewpoints. I do think we need a more compassionate country, so I tend towards liberals, but some of them are a little bit too much for me. The conservatives, however, are getting nuttier and the tea baggers are just plain nuts.

My views haven't radically changed since my 20's. I did get a wake-up call back then by serving in the military, and seeing how our government misused and mistreated those people. My views haven't changed since then--as I haven't been given a reason to change those views. Government is bad.

At reaching 50, I've decided they are all self-serving and nuts regardless of what named box they hide under.

The fact that you use the word "uncouth" is very dated, darling When someone forgets what it was like to be young, all hope is lost.

Actually, the older I get, the more liberal I become. With enough passage of time, most thinking folks can see through all the bull**** Live and let live, as they say

Nope. Actually, I have found over time that I respect them less because the philosophy has deteriorated over time. There are few remaining conservatives that have the capacity to address issues or are willing to even look at issues.

When I was younger in my teens and twenties we didn't go to the mall to hang out. Because you go to the mall to shop, get what you came for and leave. It is not a social hub even though that is how it is now used. I would not use that as a barometer.

People in their forties often begin to make comparisons between what they have done and others as if that is the be all to end all. Frankly, that is a huge mistake.

It's according to what conservative philosophies you're speaking of. I wasn't ultra left in my youth, neither am I ultra conservative now. I believe:
  • Partisan politics are what is ruining this country.
  • Some people need help from the government--and should get it, on a temporary basis.
  • The Constitution must be protected.
  • ALL media is biased--even Fox News.
  • Gays should be allowed to marry, adopt AND serve openly in the military.
  • Christians may have founded this country, but Christianity should NEVER be the national religion.
  • Most government spending is wasteful, NOT just so-called entitlement programs.
  • Celebrities should shut the eff up and just look pretty.
  • No President should get us into a war he/she is not willing to sacrifice his/her own child in.
  • The US is, and always will be, the greatest country on earth.
