Virginia governor declines to stay woman's execution - CNN.com

On principle, I don't believe that our government should have a right to murder us. That gives them way too much power.

Killed by the government. Just like in a Muslim country.
What a completely intellectually dishonest post. The OP completely disregards trial by jury and the lengthy appeals process afforded to those convicted of capital crimes and sentenced accordingly.

Would the OP seriously compare what is happening within the Virginia judicial system to this?:

BBC NEWS | Programmes | Execution of a teenage girl

or this

Really?

Honestly, I wouldn't want to see her executed, when the gunmen are getting life without parole. Doesn't seem to make sense to me to have the ones who actually did the killing to have life without parole, and the leader of the conspiracy to get death.

I'm not completely against the death penalty, there are cases where part of me would like some kind of retribution for the family involved.

However, I don't believe that the state should be doing the killing. Personally, if someone killed my son, I'd want the personal satisfaction of strangling them while the life drained from their eyes in front of me. But I sure as hell wouldn't want an executioner doing it for me.

So keep the death penalty, in extreme cases, but only if the family of the ones harmed are allowed to carry out the sentence themselves, instead of the state.

Are you saying because she's a woman she deserves special treatment? You can't be for equality between men and women and then just pull it back at will because you don't like the outcome.

No. Just pointing out that it's a woman because it's very rare for a woman to be executed by the government.

hmm, nice ninja edit considering that your original post compared this execution to the one in iran(though not specifically). the big difference being that in iran the death penalty was levied against a woman convicted of adultery in a kangaroo court, and the lady in virginia was convicted of murder and conspiracy to commit murder, and insurance fraud. i believe in the death penalty when warranted, and in the case of the VA woman, it is certainly warranted.

It is important to distinguish between abolitionists & prohibitionists...
The abolitionist is against the DP for philosophical/religious reasons,
however he accepts the reality, that the murderer is guilty as sin.
Thus, a true humanitarian abolitionist supports " life without parole"...

However, the prohibitionists are indeed socialists, they believe the murderers are innocent & social reasons are to blame for their behaviour...
So,not only they don 't want the DP but they want as light a prison sentence as possible...
For them, the murderers are INNOCENT,the society is GUILTY...

So,anyone should declare if he is an abolitionist ( murderer is guilty,DP wrong,LWOP ok) ,
or a prohibitionist /" progressive" /socialist ( murderer is innocent)...
