Has anyone else noticed that the OP of this thread continually starts asinine trollish threads and then never posts in them a second time to rebut any of the other posts?...
There are a few people in this forum that do that.
However, the tension between rules and discretion in bank regulation may reappear in some future period of widespread banking problems. In the early 1980s, Congress responded to the concerns of the banking and thrift industries and limited the ability of regulators to close weakened institutions. In that instance, Congress mandated forbearance for thrifts and some banks, delayed recapitalization of the FSLIC’s insurance fund, and then declined to provide the amount requested by the Reagan administration.
Given a surplus and 8 years to show us what they could do, George Bush and the Republicans had us on the sure path to the next Great Depression. Republicans have no clue about running an economy, only scream about taxes. With clueless Pubs doing their best to obstruct his path while failing to contribute any useful ideas on how to fix the mess, this president took office and tackled the problem. Bush had 8 years and couldn't do it. Obama had only a few months. Result? Recession over! Credit to Obama.
Well as long as the media keeps telling the idiots that the recession is over there will be a handful that believe it. "You know the hypnotized never lie?" "Do ya?" Pete Townsend, The Who.

I finally saw a political cartoon this morning that was intelligent and made me laugh. In "Another View", a beleagured voter was left to decide between Romney and Obama. Romney was characterized as a stuffy Thurston Howell III and Obama as a sheepish looking Gilligan. Man, did the artist capture their inner selfs.
So Joe Biden would be The Skipper. Michele Obama would be Ginger, she certainly wants to be a Hollywood diva. Paul Ryan would be The Professor. Anne Romney would be Lovey. Who would be sweet, wholesome Maryann? I don't think Maryann would get within 1,000 miles of DC. I guess Sarah Palin might be the closest, she was home spun at least.
Note the source. If the resession is over nobody knows it. They are just as hurting as yesterday.

The "surplus" you refer to is a myth. There was no surplus. That is a Democrat lie.
If Obama and the Democrats knew how to run an economy, we wouldn't have 25 million Americans unemployed or under employed, and have added over $5 T to the debt in 3 1/2 years.
Food prices have been on the rise for some time now, and are expected to continue to rise. Gasoline is hanging around $3.70/gal in my area compared with $1.65/gal in Dec 2008.

For the first two years of his term, Obama had complete control of both houses of Congress. The Democrats could pass anything they wanted without one Republican vote. Obstructionists my foot!
Republicans have passed 30 jobs bills in the House, but Harry Reid will not even bring them to the floor of the Senate. Who are the obstructionists?
And why haven't they passed a budget?
The Ryan plan is certainly a "useful idea on how to fix" Obama's mess. If Romney wins, we will fix his mess.

Obama tackled nothing but his golf game and paying off his supporters with taxpayer money (Solyndra, and United Auto Workers, and others). He robbed the bond holders who should have been paid first, and by shutting down dealerships, he robbed families of their livelihood, businesses that the spent years building, and planned to pass on to their children.
Obama policies have bankrupted our nation, and his ObamaCare will (if not repealed) add thousands to the tax burden of every family in America.
You are living in some kind of fairy land if you believe what you wrote.
