What if....
Citizens started preying upon campaign managers? What if we published their phone numbers, addresses, and itineraries?
What if every smear & lie resulted in thousands of citizens calling and stalking campaign managers with placards, phone calls, junk mail under their windshield wiper a mile high, our petition driven into their lawn, on the phone poles surrounding their homes in 5 mile radius, knocks on the door etc etc.?
What if the questions posed to candidates themselves started addressing what they've permitted to be done in their own name since this is an election in a REPRESENTATIVE system?
If campaign managers are misrepresenting a candidate, how is a candidate supposed to represent constituency of an entire nation?

Unfortunately, you are barking up the wrong tree. The real culprit is Citizens vs FEC ruling that equates corporations with "persons" and money with "speech".
When it comes to real speech in political debates, campaigns have a wide berth due to freedom of speech:
'...The law is similar to one that existed in the state of Washington until it was declared unconstitutional by a divided State Supreme Court in 2007. The majority opinion in that case declared “The notion that the government, rather than the people, may be the final arbiter of truth in political debate is fundamentally at odds with the First Amendment.”..'
Yeah, it's easy to get fed up with the ads and the mail and the pushy wanna-be politicos, but I've lived in countries with dictators or authoritarian regimes and I'll take our messy system over anything else.

The system-- what gets done under the blanket of our system is what is at issue, not eradicating the system wholesale. The more abstractions people hide behind, the less anyone trusts business or government.
