Red herrings? If major candidates in the R party bring up issues (like cutting the minimum wage, or foodstamps, or pretty much most of the list you've already developed on this thread) then they've MADE them the issue THEMSELVES. I think it's more likely the R's are trying to divert the country's attention from the fact that they want to be back in charge, but they have absolutely no realistic plan for what they'll do if they get there.
If you want to talk about the real issues instead of "red herrings", then talk about them. I'd like to hear a specific plan on how the republicans plan to cut taxes (how much) and just exactly which existing programs they're going to cut to pay for both the cuts and the mess we're in now (entitlements are a drop in the bucket--what else is it going to be ). I'd also love to hear their specific plan for health care reform--how are we going to fix the system--not just "lets repeal the health care bill."
**crickets chirping**
The "red herrings" you're posting about are the focus of the discussion because the R's haven't brought anything else to the table--they want the Dem's out, and that's the message--period. I hate to tell you this, but Obama slams don't constitute a plan to get us out of this mess. If you want to lead, then prove you can do it better. If you can't come up with a plan, then it's all just babble.
