The % that 72,000 makes up might surprise even you.
Still at 2 weeks.........

There are many who collect SSI benefits and die who are not of retirement age.

2 days? 2 weeks? 2 months?

72000 is 10 to 12 days of deaths.
I don't know for everyone of course but when my mom passed in 94 I had to cosign a bank loan against her estate to pay the remaining bills and the funural cost. It had to be a loan because I couldn't release funds with out due course.
The IRS had the paperwork to me with in 72 hours of her death before the funeral. Also they taxed the estate at the same time.
Additional thank you for links to a more complete article. It helps eliminate so much speculation.

They issued economic recovery payments at a accurately of more than 99.8 percent. not bad for approximately 52 million eligible beneficiaries.

And they are making recommendations for improvements, if a similar program is ever offered again.

I was going to say something similar. Yes, the funeral homes report deaths promptly. Same here, mother in law died on Jan 23rd, no SS check in Feb as usual. The funeral director had told us this would happen so we were prepared. We did get the $250 death check, I think that is what we got.

My mother in law died in Oct 07 and received checks until the following April. I discovered this when I filed her tax return. When I reported it to SS they acted like I was a criminal and warned me that this was a criminal offense. We got it straightened out (amended return) but what an attitude!
Then a year later I got a current doctors bill for her. She had been dead over a year! I called up Medicaid and they had a flippant attitude. "Oh don't worry we would have caught it"-they told me!

Dead people are the most reliable democrat voters and they vote for the handout party - so why not?

This explains why I didn't receive any stimulus money; I'm neither dead nor jailed.
