If this bid is sent overseas I will not buy any products from the Girls Scout and will not donate to them any more.

I can't believe they are considering this. Someone in the organization hasn't bothered reading their title: The Girls Scouts of America. Jeez!!

And almost every day, if you look for them there are stories about things being made with poisons in them in China, including foods. Anything, even drywall recently found with some design flaw that made it unusable.

If we export America to China, China will never become American. And we'll all just be ****ed.

To keep this thread on track: The bids going overseas are for uniforms, not cookies. To me it makes no difference as I won't support them putting Americans out of work to save a few bucks.

Wow. What a sad story! With all the Americans out of work? Now they want to make the uniforms in China?? UGH!

Absolutely pathetic. Uniforms, cookies or whatever...I would refuse to support them too. I'll have to see what is going in the GWN (Canada). The last couple of years, the cookies have been crap, it wouldn't surprise me a bit if the uniforms up here were also made offshore. People really need to understand that all this offshore stuff is really under regulated and inspected properly. I'd rather see people in North America have jobs, pay more for quality items, and have less consumer items. This whole throwaway society stuff drives me crazy!! End of rant!!

This is very sad, indeed. Even the fact that the GSA is considering having uniforms and sashes made in China is sickening. It's just wrong. If American-made garments are too expensive for some of the young Scouts, then I'm sure some sort of scholarships could be made available to the needy members. There's got to be a better way than sending the work to freakin' China! Grrrrrrrrrrrr.

I love this comment in the article:

"We are engaging in good business practices," he said in a telephone interview Friday. "Like any manufacturer who uses fabric, we have an obligation to deliver the best value to our members and their parents. We can't know if we're doing that unless we test the market."

Deliver the best value? From China? They mean, we need to get them as cheap as we can to make more profit even if they fall apart or are tainted with chemicals.

It sounds like all the parents should tell the Girl scouts they will not be buying those sashes.
