For the last six years, we have heard Republicans say government should not be involved in health care. Yet those over 65 have been receiving Medicare for decades. When Medicare started, the initial recipients had not paid a penny to receive it. This would be called wealth redistribution. So now, since Republicans are eager to abolish Obamacare, would they support ending Medicare as well?
If not, why? How do you justify one and not the other? Would you also like to end public schools?
Medicare, Medicaid no problem, they just drew the line at ACA you have to wonder why they didn't take issue with the Medicare Prescription Program passed in 2003. Good question.

I would love to end Medicare, it just needs to be phased out so those on the program don't get hosed.
As a somewhat younger guy, it's a shame Romney and Ryan didn't win. They would have passed health savings accounts legislation that would have been sustainable and wonderful for people under 50.
I'm not a Republican but I would support ending Medicare if they could find a way to give me all my money back. Because I think it would change the entire meme around "government healthcare". The 2014 was primarily older voters who are typically on Medicare. It inoculates them because they don't care if younger voters have no health care, they got theirs. But I really am curious how consistent Republicans are about this.

One of the most stupid thing I have ever read here on CD....I have kids that work everyday, why would I not want them to have health care!
But I'll make a deal with you, if you will return ever penny that I paid into from the day it started plus what I pay ever month now plus what I could have made in the stock market with all of that money we have a deal.

Hey, I want the same! I'm all for it! I've paid the maximum for many years and if Republicans are so anti-government health care, let's do it. But end Medicare too. Because there is no reason why an older voter should have the ability to vote against health care for younger people while they are receiving health care themselves.
So do it Republicans. Be consistent. Don't spend six years talking about the evilness and socialism of government health care, while quietly sucking on the Medicare teat. You want your contributions back? So do I. Let all the old people fend for themselves and then, let's talk about the evilness of government health care.
Kind of a dumb question because half of the posters in this forum can fall back on VA care and could care less about Medicare. Of course with two govenment programs under their belt and maybe three with Tricare they hate Obummercare which is socialism.
