Let me see if I have this straight. The Repubs have been sitting on good ideas for spending cuts for months, maybe even years, but did not want to tip their hand? When the Dems were asking for their help in this, they kept their mouths shut, for what purpose? When the Senate Dems were wanting to form a Senate Commission to put together Dem and Repub ideas to deal with the deficit, they didn't do that because they didn't want to tip their hands? I think the Repubs have some tricks up their sleves, but I suspect they are on you.
And the republicans wonder why the democrats didn't use any of their ideas!
I know its all fun for some libs to dance around and mock the republicans for not laying out all their plans for budget cuts but all you are doing is showing you are either dishonest or niave.
The GOP isn't going to go out and say where they are going to cut because the dems will run the old "Look the GOP is trying to starve your grandma and and take away grandpa's doctor!!!!" routine they used in '86 on Reagan and in '06 when Bush brought up SS reform. They'll wait until Obama's own commision issues its reccomendation then use those for cover to make any cuts. The congressional Dems can either engage on the issue in a serious manner (that would be a first ) or throw Obama under the bus going into 2012.
SO you can have your fun, but its either becasue you are too dumb to understand the politics or just don't care about solving the problem and want to demogoge the issue. Which one is it?

No. But I think its fair to say everyone realizes granny's gonna have to pay more of her own bill. The GOP isn't dumb enough to march out and push for medicare reduction on their own.

Are you sure about that? Even, if they think it will help them get votes. I am not sure I could say that about either Party.
Republicans cannot name one program or area that they plan to cut spending in order to reduce the deficit. The dirty secret is the only way to reduce the deficit without raising taxes is to cut funding to Social Security and Medicare.
All I know is that they better keep their government hands off my Medicare.

SS and medicare is a ponzi scheme, if they didn't spend the money when the money is received, then we wouldn't have this problem.
There are a lot they can cut before SS and medicare. For starter, we can cut oversea military spending. Honestly, when our infrastructure need an upgrade badly, why are we sending money oversea to help build other countries infrastructure.
Why do we need to have military bases all over the world. For country like N. Korea and Japan, they are rich enough to have their own military. I understand the whole communists argument in the 60s, but we are depending on the communists now, so why are we still have bases all over the world?
How about FEMA and the EPA? Why do we need them? These two new agency have so much power. I believe they have more power than the president because they can just create laws and regulations on the fly.
Medicare part D... was a totally unfunded program which the system could not afford. ... thank you W...
The repubs have never reduced a budget so why would anyone think they will now?
I agree with the slashing the DOD and homeland security. they are bloated wasteful departments. simply end the war and between those two areas you could trim $1T+
SS needs to be trimed down to cover only the beneficiaries it was intended for. and based on what t they paid into the system.
Consolidate all healthcare plans under the new national healthcare. since it will make a profit it needs to be used to eliminate duplication. ...no more VA hospitals, or private health plans for the senate, or medicare/medicaid. we need only the one.
to the suggestion on NPR.. they are a drip in the bucket. and one of the few good things the gov does. Since the school systems seem to be on a course of elimination of the arts... we need something somewhere.

How about getting the F out of Iraq and Afghanistan... Reduce our military presence in Europe...
