The last time Congress debated a health overhaul, when Bill Clinton was president, Hatch and several other senators who now oppose the so-called individual mandate actually supported a bill that would have required it. In fact, says Len Nichols of the New America Foundation, the individual mandate was originally a Republican idea. "It was invented by Mark Pauly to give to George Bush Sr. back in the day, as a competition to the employer mandate focus of the Democrats at the time."

It's only "Socialism" when somebody else passes what they can't. I'm also sure none of these clowns will be giving up their government health care any time soon.

Well, yeah, the mandate has been the republican answer to the health care crisis for the last twenty years. Establishment candidates only hate it now because it is popular to. In reality, it is good business for the insurance companies.

Maybe he changed his mind. That can happen in a span of 15 years.

What...something in the Constitution changed in the last 15 years?

Naaah...what's changed is the potential danger of him losing his seat. He's not nearly as popular with the Atilla the Hun wing of the Republican Party in his state as he once was.

Typical of a Repubocrat - they say one thing, and depending on the direction of the wind, they will say another. Do the United States a favor and quit voting in Republicans and Democrats.

His opinion of it being unconstitutional has apparently changed. I know it's hard to believe that someone might change their mind.

Apparently he's not the only one . Senators Charles Grassley (R), Robert Bennett (R), and Christopher Bond (R) were also co-sponsors of a bill introduced in 1993 that would have made the Individual Mandate the law (the other 19 Republican senators who sponsored it are no longer in the Senate).

Last edited by hammertime33; 11-22-2010 at 02:59 PM.. Reason: changed 15 to 19 - the bill was sponsored by 23 (R) Senators

Yeah, and that is not a coincidence. These people are RINOs (Republican In Name Only). When even the RINOs and some Democrats oppose something its a good bet that at least 75% of the country opposes it too.

Makes you wonder why more people in congress don't listen to the people they represent more often, and change with the views of those that voted them into office.

For instance, people that once didn't care about illegal aliens, are now screaming get rid of them. Why, because illegals finally touched their lives and not just someplace far away.

If you don't listen and do what your constituents ask, you will be replaced come next election.
