The study was expected to provide some much-needed ammunition to congressional Democrats struggling to overturn the law. But despite supporters' hopes to force a vote during the lame-duck legislative session, it remains unclear whether the findings would be enough to sway skeptical Republicans, led by Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz.
First, McCain said that if military leaders supported repeal, he would support it too. Then he said he wanted to wait for the report before making a decision. Now that the report is out and doesn't jibe with his personal views, he says the report is flawed. What a loser.

McCain is transforming from the "Maverick" into an old school Dixiecrat.

Default Pentagon study backs end to 'don't ask, don't tell'

Quote:
A Defense Department report released Tuesday says gay troops could serve openly without hurting the military's ability to fight, a conclusion sure to ignite a debate next month on Capitol Hill over repealing the "don't ask, don't tell" policy. More than two-thirds of U.S. troops surveyed predicted that gay and lesbians serving openly in the military would not have a negative impact on the military...According to the assessment, 92% of troops who have served with someone they believed to be gay thought that their unit's ability to work together was either very good, good, or neither good nor poor.

McCain has used up his brain cells. The man is an idiot. He chose Palin right?

John McCain is a self righteous blowhard and an idiot who took advantage of family privilege to join the Navy. He was inept enough to get shot down over North Viet Nam and taken prisoner and parlayed that into a political career by dumping one wife and taking another and using her connections and money to run for political office.

The man has never achieved anything in his life without the use of family connections and other peoples' money.

THIS is the person we are listening to for military policy?

As a Vet I don't recall getting a lot of choices in which policies I agreed with. For example when my ships deployment was extended every single time.
Or when we were picking up pieces of dead marines in Beirut but were not allowed to shoot back at bad guys shooting at us.
SEARS training was mandatory for rescue swimmers. I didn't agree with that policy either.
When we switched from the 45 acp to the whimpy less effective 9mm. I 100% did not agree with that policy.
In the end we complied.
The military will survive this change. Other military's have. I am pretty sure a persons sexual identity isn't what determines their fitness for duty.
70 years ago it was felt that Blacks were not fit for front line duty. Thats been proven false.
Lets let these people serve their country, with dignity and the respect that we afford others.
