You can put in 10 years and retire but not draw till retirement age of 60.

So you're fully vested after 10 yrs instead of 20? Wow, only 10 yrs. That sounds pretty good. How is that gutting anyone's retirement?

Should have cut our military down to size long time ago.

I still don't understand why all cuts go for the people at the bottom. Military people are paid at an incredibly low rate, so their pensions are really not that generous. On the other hand, non-military government employees are paid incredibly well, get unbelievably generous benefits, AND have incredible pensions. They also work less hours than the private sector job that compensates much less in all of these aspects.

It is the generous pensions of the non-military government employees that need slashing.

The size of it yes....Military pay no.

This fiscal commission was stacked with half GOPers and the other half Conservative Democrats.

What they've done propose cuts in benefits for the little guy (like military retirees) and passed on slightly higher painless cuts for the ultra rich.

They'll likely get away with because the owners of this country have managed to brainwash middle class Americans into thinking their benefits are the problem.

Right....slash benefits of worker ants before we dare to ask the ultra rich to pay more.

Here are the historic top marginal tax rates on the highest income earners since 1920....You'll notice the working person had the balls to stick up for himself years ago.

actually they did cut the size of the military. The problem is that they contracted out thousands of jobs, and they continue to do that. It is fuzzy math... It would be more cost effective to beef up the active forces, and cut contractors & DOD civilians.

That's called "misinformation."

If you are an officer, you can do 10 years and retire, but if your are enlisted you do not have that option.

Military has been going through big personnel cuts. Contractors are being cut by 10% and increasing. DoD civilians have been through multiple Reduction in Forces (RIFs) and are still seeing that now. Know anything about JFCOM? Pretty big agency - completely cut. Again, the huge increase in gov't employees that the media quotes are NOT in the DoD. They are non-DoD jobs being created in agencies such as Homeland Security, Treasury Dept, State Dept, Justice Dept, SSA, HHS...and more I am sure.
