Nobody dares to admit that they got this whole thing wrong...Once people realize that who they vote for in general elections has become no more than a charade, then if they want to change things, all they are left with is civil disobedience and violence, and we’re beginning to see this already. In Greece we are seeing small terrorist style attacks that are taking place on EU buildings that are taking place against EU officials...So what happens if you rob people of their rights is they will turn to violence and they will turn to extremism, and that is why I believe these people to be so dangerous."

People would care, but they are too busy having some pot legeally in Amsterdam, marrying the partner of their choice, spending some of their many vacation weeks hunting in and shooting in Scandinavia, picking up some porn in Denmark, then booming down the autobahn to paricipate in demonstrations in France.
After that, they may start to care about how unfree they are.
Honestly, I really doubt anyone has been as free as this generation since agricultural societies arose.
Who the hell is Nigel Farage and why should I care about his ridiculous rants?
Nigel 'nutjob' Farage is leader of the UK independance party, he's an utterly irrellevant figure in UK politics who likes to spout off hyperbole at any opportunity.

the problem is economic freedom. the european union has added mountains of red tape to already bureaucratic states in europe. the result is that it is very difficult for a small business to start and get a foothold in the market. this obviously suits big business but for some reason it isn't immediately apparent to those who regularly criticise big corporations. they never consider that all the regulations they continually propose, actually help the big business that they supposedly hate.
while states are independent, as they have been, they can try new things. the portuguese decriminalised all drug use. people of europe can llok at portugal and decide whether it was good policy. when a monolithic power makes all the rules however, there is no wiggle room for some countries to try new things and experiment with new ideas. that is a huge problem. the lisbon treaty is relatively new and its effects haven't yet been felt but over time they will.
In before "Have you ever even lived in Europe?" rantings.
