Just makes us that much more dependent on imported oil
More money flowing to the ME countries.
True, but what about tourism in Florida? That is a pretty big part of their state's income. I for one, like the idea of America doing for itself, oil and all. The more we depend on ourselves, the less dependant we are on others.....
I don't care about this issue that much, but if their governor elect wants drilling off the coast of Florida, then Obama should permit it. Scott is clearly going against the electorate in Florida by being pro-drilling. This is the state that just elected a pro-drilling Governor, and a pro-drilling senator.
Republicans can't seem to make up their minds. They want drilling, but if there is a disaster they want big government to come in and help fix it. But as long as everything is going smooth, they want the government to be hands off. Then they don't want drilling in Florida, but elect pro-drilling politicians. LOL...hell, i'm getting confused myself.
Bottom line...they want drilling in the eastern Gulf, but they don't want drilling in their backyards. Which is making me even more confused.
It will be nice one day, when we as a nation, can create what we eat, drink, wear, drive, etc., without the thought or process of depending on another country for what we can produce ourselves. That includes oil, gas, etc......

Cuba's oil rights go right up to about 45 miles from Key West.
Both Russia and China want in via Cuba but nothing's been signed yet.
There are 20 million acres of the gulf leased out but which they haven't even bothered to test drill yet. Drill some of that. The section placed off limits is the really deep water stuff which the companies have proven they can't do safely so until the review of regulations on it is completed and the big oil companies can explain how they can do it safely then tough. Use some of the 20 million acres you already have but haven't gotten around to even test drilling yet.
