Amazon drops WikiLeaks under political pressure - Yahoo! News (http://news.yahoo.com/s/afp/20101201/tc_afp/usdiplomacyinternetwikileakscongressamazon - broken link)

I am happy to learn that Amazon removed Wikileaks from its servers after political pressure from Congress.

Those who support wikileaks are now calling this move an attack on Free speech and freedom of the press which is ridiculous. The Constitutional right to free speech/press dopes not give Wikileaks the right to release secret classified documents from the Pentagon and State department.

What was so secret about what was in the weakyleaks? He was an Australian anyway, so the US Constitution doesn't apply. Amazon can do what it pleases, but if it buckled under pressure they will see ZERO of my business further.

As a US citizen I am glad the material is seeing the light of day. Helps me keep tabs on my runaway government.

Counterargument: The government does not have the right to classify and hide documents which show the government committing illegal acts and shady backroom tactics which harm our standing in the international community. This is, after all, supposedly our government.

Care levels at Amazon dropping Wikileaks: Non-existent. It's their right as a company. However, your reasoning behind backing them dropping Wikileaks is pretty sad.

no but politicians putting pressure on amazon to drop them is! it would be one thing if they did so of their own free will but i'd bet that politicians put them under pressure to do so. what next, pressure from politicians to close the ny times or the washinton post?

FWIW - Some of the more vehement RWA's want to shut down everything but Faux Noise. There can be only ONE TRUTH so no other sources are needed.
