Or how our government is using the NEA to promote its agendas; i.e. Cap & Trade, National Health Care, etc. as told first hand by an artist who was called upon to "support the President's initiatives..." through his artwork funded by the nation's largest annual funder of the arts. Appears the NEA has been attempting "to direct imagery, songs, films, and literature that could create the illusion of a national consensus. This is what Noam Chomsky calls 'manufacturing consent.'" Similar to what they did in Fascist Germany as pointed out in the second link.

Fascism and the Cult of Nation

Might want to keep this in mind the next time you see a Smithsonian Art Exhibit that seems to promote Homosexuality/Anti-Christianity or feel overwhelmed by the amount of Green/Eco themed movies, books & art exhibits seen everywhere, not to mention the total innundation of Gay/Lesbian themed TV shows, songs, & literature that is pushed at your kids everyday until you finally just shrug your shoulders and cave in saying, "Well, I guess that's just the way it is now, sigh." Just, think back to this article and Chomsky's two little words, "manufactured consent."

We are being led down a Government Directed Path of Trickery. Don't be fooled.

What exactly is the problem here?

Art is art. Some may be objectional to some individuals, but they're all covered under freedom of expression and such.

Freedom of expression is great. But when art is used with taxpayer's funds to push a political agenda it is not great. If you read the links, you will see that that is what was done in Fascist Germany.

"The NEA was created by the Congress of the United States and President Lyndon B. Johnson in 1965 as 'a public agency dedicated to supporting excellence in the arts, both new and established; bringing the arts to all Americans; and providing leadership in arts education.' The issue of health care is curiously absent from this description on their website."

Again, if you read the link, you will see the intent to deliberately misuse the arts by the government. "This is just the beginning. This is the first telephone call of a brand new conversation. We are just now learning how to really bring this community together to speak WITH the government. What that looks like legally?...bare with us as we learn the language so that we can speak to each other safely..."

And this one is on a HUGE scale. I think it goes along with the "Values Test" the FCC wants to control the airwaves with. The word "Fascism" keeps coming to mind. No one wants to believe it, though.

Oh please - it's just the opposite. You haven't heard that the Catholic League winced and The Smithsonian caved and took down art that offended their sensibilities? (ant covered jesus video). Have you forgotten the big stink over Mapplethorpe's exhibits in the 90s? Congress pulled over 25% of NEA funding because of that. Art is supposed to be able to include authentic self-expression - oh, unless it's about the wrong kind of sex or religion

Publically funded art is NOT supposed to be the promotion of a political agenda, which if you bothered to read the link, is described as happening. The current administration and the National Endowment of the Arts have met and requested a select group of artists to create art that would promote Cap and Trade, Health Care Reform and more. That is hardly calling for "authentic self-expression..."

Here is one of the links again, in case you want to read it this time:

Actually, if you read the link, you will see that the information is told, firsthand from an artist who was contacted by the NEA and included in on this "behind the scenes" teleconference, which planned the surrepticious use of the NEA funds to promote a government promoted art campaign to push Cap and Trade and National Health Care as well as other political programs. I'm surprised you leftists who are so into "Freedom" aren't more upset about this story. Or is it that encroachments on Freedom only bother you when it goes against your agendas? Is Fascism okay if it, at least initially, promotes something you agree with?
