The Republicans won an agreement to fix the Alternative Minimum Tax (AMT). As the Democrat-controlled Congress did not adjust the AMT limits for inflation in 2010, as many as 21 million families were going to get hit with an extra $2,000 tax. The framework agreement will include a “patch” on the AMT for 2010 and 2011 to prevent the tax hike on middle class families.

The President has touted that, in exchange for the tax cuts in the negotations, he got a 13-month extension of federal unemployment insurance programs for those who have been jobless for 99 weeks.

What is this "patch" nonsense they do every year? They know this AMT tax is BS, why the hell
won't our government permanently fix this scam tax? is it so they can hold us hostage and act like they're doing us a favor year-after-year? Complete frauds, they're a cruel hoax.. All of them. In reality, AMT should be adjusted to where only the RICH can be affected as was the AMT's original intention. Again, it shows you who the tax code was written for and by.

Why won't our government permanently fix this scam AMT tax? is it so they can hold us hostage and act like they're doing us a favor year-after-year? God Damn crooks. All of them. When in reality, it should be adjusted to where only the RICH can be affected as was the AMT's original intention. Again, it shows you who the tax code was written for and by.
There are no tax cuts being considered. What is being considered is not raising taxes. This we must do. We must keep the rates where they are or things will get much worse.

This administration, and these Democrats are such a disaster!

I'm talking about the AMT. Neither party wants to fix it and it hasn't been adjusted for inflation since it was introduced over 50 years ago. It was not designed as a tax against 22 million families. What I'm saying is, they constantly "patch" this stupid tax instead of doing the right thing and nixing it.

With no AMT patch people earning $75K per year will fall into the AMT bracket.
This AMT was for "rich" people.

Rush Limbaugh said today that the Dems didn't let their outgoing congressmen (retirees and voted out in November) vote and since many of those are Blue Dogs...

I'm sure that 99.9% of people agree this tax is a complete scam against the middle class...yet government continues year-after-year simply "patching" it -- rather than nixing it. How the hell do they get away with this?? They hold us hostage every year and they act like some sort of mysterious powers are holding them back from fixing it. And that we should be thanking them for patching it. bALONEY!!

WAKE UP PEOPLE WAKE THE FU*K UP AND DEMAND THEY REMOVE THIS TAX. Not simply "patch" it.

I know it wasn't exactly the point you were making, but out of curiosity, what wretched source did you use in that quote?? Considering, they basically told two lies??

The AMT patch was also included the two bills the GOP blocked from proceeding, (extending the tax cuts for those under $250,000 and $ 1 million) and the 13 month extension was not for those already maxed out at 99 weeks.

Frankly the whole tax code needs to go. The AMT needs to go (yes, a sham from the start) and our income tax system needs to be chucked for either a flat tax or a consumption tax. We the people need to stop allowing Congress to use our tax code as a way to mess with the economy at will and buy votes.

You're right on the bad source. I quoted it over from another thread that I can't seem to find. But you get the point at least. Why is it that they have not "patched" this up PERMANENTLY ? What were dems doing the last 2 years?? Why wouldn't they just go in now and say "we're raising the income threshold to $1 Million, that can be affected by this tax. I'd like to know, who's stopping them from doing that???

Can anyone explain that??

[complete silence]
