Mayor Oscar Goodman said the Thursday dedication of the solar carport, the first of a planned trio of ports at the Stupak Community Center, was nearly called off when he discovered the sample was assembled in Mexico, the Las Vegas Review-Journal reported Friday.
As it should be. If an American company makes a comparable product they should get first opprotunity on a gov contract.
Unless the Mexican companies make a comparable product for less cost. What a quandary that would be: should the government pay less (and therefore spend less taxpayer money) on the less expensive product or pay more to save American jobs?
Because its US tax dollars subsidizing a very expensive product. Surely if we're going to spend money on something that is going to cost a lot more than conventional energy from coal we should at least demand they be made in the US.

Most likely this was an American company assembling the product in a Mexican maquiladora to save on labor costs. Juarez industrial parks are dominated by US companies.
