Given the obstruction by the opposition, it's amazing that anything got done these 2 years and that said, sure we all want it faster, but it will take years to clean up the deregulation party's mess.

You must have incredible expectations on how fast such a mess can be reversed.

4 pages and nobody can site any positive results from the last 2-4 years.

The 'berg isn't too bad, CNBC...they have their hedge fund slant, but for the most part are way ahead of the curve on information.

Dem's took control of the House in '07. And while they should have brought the entire thing to a stand still, their operational methods are not the question here.

And yes we are much better than in '06.

Liberal FTA's...you're funny. Jobs are leaving for sure, but not b/c of the FTA's.

Yep...these are the same exact talking points you already used. No new program today?

Republican's doubled the deficit by essentially doing what Arthur Anderson and now Ernst & Young...you can only put out and off paying the debts for so long. It's an age old accounting trick, that is in all manner illegal. And at some point, the debts have to be paid, or the hole gets deeper.

Housing market...please...implosion started in 2005.

We are 1000x better off than in '04, '08...we're on the way up from the bottom, it's just that the bottom was so far down, it's taking much longer than expected. And the tax cuts Obama passed recently won't help. But we are indeed better off.

I may point out, that one of the first acts of the democratic congress was in 2007 to attach a bill to up the federal minumum wageto the Troop Readiness, Veterans' Care, Katrina Recovery, and Iraq Accountability Appropriations Act, 2007.

Soon after that, because of the artificial inflation of wages, and the deflation of wages of people NOT working for minumum wage, jobs started being lost. Costs started to go up, as people now had to charge more to make up for increases in employee wages, as those costs went up, other people had to start charging more for their goods and services, and in order to cut costs, more jobs were cut. In fact if you look at all of the economic statistics, the change in federal minimum wage, instituted by the democratic congress voted into office in Nov 2006, taking office in 2007, ( the last 2 years of Bushes presidency), was the start of the economic downturn.

You can BLAME bush for signing off on it, but since he was left with not being able to fund the troops unless he signed it, as well as getting blamed for not looking out for veterans, and not holding people accountable, due to pressure from the democratic controlled congress, he was forced to sign this bill, kinda like Obama and the current tax cuts.

So, if you want to know how and when the problems started, there you go.

Yes, let's stop the misinformation, you obviously didn't read as you posted it. The Dems took power of both Houses in '08. The act you point to is 2007. However, that's just window dressing and has nothing to do w/ job loss. Jobs were being lost b/c of the massive bubble and impending doom coming down the pipe and corp's panicking to get ready for what they knew was inevitable. The min. wage had nothing to do w/ that.

You need to analyze this in greater detail(a basic formula that will do for now):

Specifically focusing on C and G. Then get back to us.

Oh, and those troop costs, are not even calculated completely yet. That's right...Bush and his accountants kept those costs off the books for the most part. We still have to pay the rest of those starting next year. Good luck attempting to explain those also.

Don't forget the unpaid-for Medicare bill (that Bush instructed the Medicare Actuary to lie to the American people about the TRUE cost of, or risk losing his job) and the unpaid-for tax cuts for the past 10 years (now plus 2 more).

I love how a certain segment of Americans think the Democrats had a magic wand they waved in 2006 and POOF, suddenly the economy hit the crapper. As if their mere presence was enough to cause the kind of job losses, bank collapses and housing implosion that began the second they were sworn in. We're pretty good, but not quite that amazing.

Your Democrat Party, America.
Any list posted here would be a futile waste of time. Your side doesn't give a damn about the real progress we've made as a nation. You'll find some way to call it all Socialist/Fascist/Communist or whatever other "ist" you can spit out without even really knowing what it means.

The fact of the matter is, this President has passed more major (and meaningful) legislation during his first 2 years in office, than Bush did in his entire first term.

Common misconception. Embryonic stem cell research never ceased. Bush was the first president to federally fund embryonic stem cell research but he was bound by federal law, the Dickey Amendment, which Bill Clinton first signed into law, which limited federal funds to existing stem cell lines. Obama renewed the Dickey Amendment.

Meanwhile, privately-funded embryonic stem cell research continued unrestricted and, billions of dollars later, has been declared a failure because it never produced results. Research now favors adult stem cell research because it has actually produced positive results.

Time for the Democrats to take some ownership here. How are we any better off now than 2008, let alone 2004?

We are better off because the public at large is finally seeing the truth about the Democrats. Now we need to begin to shine the light of truth on the Republicans as well.

I have no idea why I still find myself amazed at how wrong people can be on this forum.

First, the Dickey Amendment did not "limit federal funds to existing stem cell lines". It prevented federal funds from being used to CREATE NEW EMBRYOS for the purpose of their destruction in scientific research. (You do know that an embryo and a stem cell are two different things, right?)

Second, in 1999 President Clinton determined that hESC harvested from embryos discarded after in vitro fertility treatments, but not from embryos created expressly for experimentation, did not violate the Dickey Amendment and issued proposed legislation to fund hESC research through the Department of Health and Human Services.

It was George W. Bush who held up that legislation after taking office, and who then passed legislation limiting federal funding to already existing stem cell lines created before August 9th, 2001, thereby prohibiting federal funding for research on any stem cells that could come from existing embryos or any future discarded embryos.

And last but not least, President Obama just repealed that legislation, opening up federal funding to study hESC that may or may not currently exist.

As for the garbage about hESC research having been declared a failure. . .

That's just so absurd it doesn't even rate a rebuttal.
