If this is indeed the case it brings to mind WHY the BATFE would do such a thing....

“Coming next will be more info on what the agents refer to as the Phoenix ATF office ‘walking across’ ARs and AKs to pad their statistics,” this column reported on Monday, citing a December reference to allegations made on the CleanUpATF.org forum that approval/direction was given for “more than 500 AR-15 type rifles from Tucson and Phoenix cases to be ‘walked’ to Mexico.”

Because it just adds to the cause that selling guns is BAD.
But the cartels have moved to rocket launchers mounted on jeeps, grenades and submarines.
Can't buy those at the local US gun shop..can you ?

A government agency lying to forward an agenda contrary to the will of the people and in direct conflict with the Constitution?

But, but..if they have the "numbers" they can show the American people that banning guns in the US will protect them from the evil Mexican cartels.

I am not surprised that the Border Patrol and the BATF were fabricating gun trafficking statistics. Right or Left Wing, ALL governments fear an armed civilian population. This is why I support the elimination of ALL restrictive weapons laws.

The Mexican Government has lost control for various reasons, internal corruption be the most likely, of criminal gangs in their country. The smugglers along the US border have created a complete anarchy and are using whatever weapons they need to protect their piece of the pie. Most of the higher level military weapons such as heavy machine guns, anti tank rocket launchers, mortars and similar weapons are not readily available to US citizens so any major weapons smuggling is likely to be from the gangs to the US not from us to them.

Considering the amount of money being spent to apprehend such a small amount of drugs, guns and people being smuggled across the border I am concluding it is a waste of time and effort.
