When the governments of the world refuse to provide effective protection from pirates the merchant ships, like other individuals, must become armed for their own defense. I see the return of armed merchantmen to the world ocean.

No worries. It's all for the collective best of the one world order

My point was that this was the biggest vessel they've taken to date. Last night I saw a program on TV which showed the distribution of ransom monies and what they showed was illiterate punks building million dollar estates and mansions. It's time something decisive is done...by all governments who have an interest at stake.

You would think this would be the most logical solution....

Oz - If the Dutch and British East India companies were any indication it worked quite well.

When they put armed merchant ships back on the high seas guess who will pay the bill? They need to do something drastic and decisive which will get the attention of each and every punk who aspires to a mafia like lifestyle...like I said earlier, something one time something big time.

What is the cost of two or three armed guards per ship compared to the naval assets now deployed(and not succeeding)???

Or simply training the Ships Officers and shipping companies supplying the firearms?

Of course merchant companies should provide their own security to their ships. The only thing is that the evil governments step out of the way preventing them

The bill created by pirates is paid for by the shippers of the world. The lost lives, goods, ships or ransoms are the bill. You either pay the pirates or pay to kill the pirates. The latter is cheaper in the long run.

You got that right. There are thousands of merchant vessels, tankers, etc. capable of cargoes in the thousands of tons. It hasn't been that long since they got one with about fifty military tanks and tons of ammunition. First thing you know they'll come up with something really crucial.
