I choose my friend based on personal character. I couldn't care less if they don't share my politics.

Personal character for me as well. A lot of people don't really have any interest in politics. But I will say that a few "friends" decided not to be friends with me any more becase of some of my political beliefs.

Character, but character tends to mean that they coincide with my politics and are equally political.

To me it means that my friends are honest, decent people who give back to the community.

People are defined by character.

But can someones character influence their political leanings, of course!

Yeah, personal character.

I have ultra conservative friends.

I have uber liberal friends.

I don't care about their politics, though I'll admit the liberals are more fun...

I choose my friends based on their character. Their political leanings are a part of that character.

I wouldn't be friends with anyone who advocated murder or marrying sheep, for instance. So hypothetically, if a person associates themselves with a political party that does, I do not want anything to do with them.

Character. If I didn't I probably wouldn't have any friends here as most are republican with a little shift in the last few years going democratic.
