Oh? So you were there in the White House when the doctors were not performing annual testing? Even though they clearly stated in the article (if you had read it) that they regularly tested him while president and after? Which in fact lead to the diagnosis in 1992?
Ronald Reagan was so disengaged for the last 2 years of his presidency that a serious cases could be made that he was suffering from Alzheimer's. After all how could he not be aware of something like Iran-Contra if he wasn't fully engaged as President?

Ron Reagan is right.
I totally agree with all three of you. I don't understand, though, what difference it makes to anyone at this point in time. What's done is done and nothing can change that. Even if they COULD prove he has early signs of Alzheimer's while still in office, it wouldn't take anything away from his legacy. Nancy and Michael Reagan have always had President Reagan on a high pedestal and it's very likely they wouldn't want to admit that what Ron is saying is true because preserving the president's legacy has become their life mission. No family has ever worked so hard to memorialize an x-president as they have.
I've had a lot of experience with family members with Alzheimer's, too---my dad, mother-in-law and sister-in-law. And the onset does come many years before it becomes debilitating.
Reagan did everything that was possible to bring the world to war but luckily it didn't happen. He also set the US back 20 years in environmental policy. How is it possible to remember a political leader who cut spending on everything except the military kindly? Sorry to burst your bubble GOPpers but he was a warmonger.

Getting a bit desperate aren't you?
The fact that they regularly tested him for signs of Alzheimer's is a pretty clear indication in itself that there was reason for concern. There really isn't any cut and dry medical test that can be given anyway other than verbal testing. Those verbal tests aren't routinely given to people of a certain age. They are given when loved ones have concerns.

I think it humanizes him and there is nothing to be ashamed of about this disease. I think, yes, it's great to preserve his legacy, but I think it's important to tell the truth too.
Why, because we don't want some Dr's opinion who happens to be on the White House payroll who would lose his job if he came out with the truth?
All four White House doctors have already said he showed no signs while he was president. Reagan is dead, and not one of those doctors has changed their testimony as to what they saw of the man day in and day out. Excuse me if I find their professional opinions to be more reliable than your political convictions.
