This is why it's important to have a social safety net that is run by the government. Relying on private charities - as many conservatives suggest we do - leads to problems such as this:

Quote:
The director of a homeless shelter in Columbus, Ga., refuses to budge on his opposition to serving gay and lesbian people.

"That act is not tolerated here at all," Harris said. "Let me tell you one of the reasons why, because of the bible of course, and then we have little children that we won't have tolerate that kind of act here."

I didn't realize that sexual orientation was an action.

And unless someone comes right and says, "I'm gay", how will the shelter know?

In other words, don't ask, don't tell, huh? I think we've moved beyond that in this country.

You're suggesting that gay homeless shelter residents shouldn't be allowed to talk about their relationships or have visits from significant others?

Perfectly understandable. We are all supposed to throw out the new testament and refer to the old testament to support our bias or bigotry.
After all god only likes those who judge others the most right???

"That act is not tolerated here at all," Harris said. "Let me tell you one of the reasons why, because of the bible of course, and then we have little children that we won't have tolerate that kind of act here." Seems you are misleading once again....

And it seems that you are unwilling or unable to read the main article:

"News 3 offered Harris the opportunity to explain himself on-camera, but he declined. Instead, he reiterated his position over the phone, explaining why the facility cannot shelter people who practice a gay lifestyle off the premises."

Read the article, two women broke curfew to smoke a cigarette. He evicted them because he saw that as a lesbian assignation. That's the ACT he's not tolerating. Two women sneaking a cigarette together.
