Russian troops in Afghanistan - why hasn't anyone thought of that before? There's no way that could backfire politically.

It would both trim the fat on our budget and make the UN more of a globally funded organization.
So how do you feel about foreign aid? Say, to Israel?
I say pull it all back, but we need to be part of a group that represents the entire world.
Alternately, we need to stay out of the business of every other country in the world.

The US is not the center of the universe, although many citizens think that it is. It is part of a whole, if you like it or not.
How many jobs does the UN bring to NYC? Rentals, translators, shopping, etc.
You don't think this would have an impact on the economy?

This picking and choosing would be funny if not so short sighted.

Since the United States used a single UN resolution as its justification for the invasion of Iraq, I say lets pull out entirely before we use them as political cover to invade yet another country.

...

As China's leaders make extravagant claims about surpassing the U.S. in economic might, as they did last week, the fact remains China pays about 2.1% of the U.N. budget while the U.S. pays 41%.

...

Now with a new Congress in Washington, the gravy train is about to end. House Republicans, led by Foreign Affairs Committee chair Ileana Ros-Lehtinen, want the U.S. to withhold some of its funding, including 82% of the operating budget. Ros-Lehtinen will hold hearings Tuesday about why the White House hasn't removed the "kick me" sign from Uncle Sam's back.

The cut in support couldn't happen to a more deserving group.

The UN provides a nice 'velvet glove' for America's iron first. Frankly its just easier to coerce and control people if do so through a 'legitimate' means like the UN. So it makes a lot of sense for the USA to own and control it.

The UN is largely funded by the USA however, there are other nations with an interest as well it's time the USA stopped being the world's watchdog.

China is an emerging power, they don't HAVE social power which is what the USA has, China is economically strong, but head to head they're not as powerful as the USA.

Sometimes change comes when everything else crumbles around. Only then can a resolution be found. USA should step back from the influence we have over the UN.

That will be happening in 2018 regardless of what happens with the UN.
