I don't get why having an affair should end a politician's career. I guess that might happen if the politician is doing something illegal, but if it's just a normal then it should be fine.

A person's private life shouldn't have anything to do with how he or she handles the big issues.

Religion. I think that is obvious. You will fry in hell if you ever have lustful thoughts and pop a boner.

A better question: why are Europeans so obsessed with American sex? Do you not get enough action over there?

Yes, US leaders should aspire to such decadent greatness as Silvio Berlusconi, François Mitterrand, and Nicolas Sarkozy. Our standards for world-class leaders are simply higher than Europe's, that's why we're the Superpower and European countries are irrelevant, forever crying and nipping at America's heel.

It has nothing to do with sex, and everything to do with character, or rather the lack thereof. If a married politician has an affair then they have deliberately violated the oath they made to their spouse. If they can do that, then why would anyone believe they will abide by their oath of office?
