What gets me is I have yet to hear ANYBODY that has complained about GM workers getting bonuses complain about government subsidies corporations receive every year or corporate tax loopholes that allow corporations to reduce there tax burden by the billions.
Where's the outrage?
I'M sure you don't get it because you think all wealth belongs to the government. Tax policy governs how much the government will confiscate. Bailouts are a transfer of wealth.
Telling other people what they can do in their private lives.
Unlimited Corporate Power
That's just for openers.
Boy, you Lefties haven't toned down the hateful rhetoric at all, have you.
Money - what's wrong with money? You need it to live. And those leftie hollywood types sure love their high salaries for not much work. But nobody begrudges them.
Seriously? You're accusing christians of being white supremists. You lefties ARE getting desperate.
Yes, American is exceptional. That's why everyone in this world wants to come here. But if you hate it here, you are free to leave.
Lower taxes are a good thing. Raising taxes never made a country stronger. Ever.
Telling people what to do in their private lives? Kind of like the food police, the energy police, the green police?
I'd much rather have unlimited corporate power than unlimited govt power. If you don't like a corporation, you can choose to ignore them. Enough people do that, and they go away. Unlike the govt that has the power of arrest and seizure if you don't do what they've decreed.
Of course it has to be repaid, the debt isn't going to disappear from the treasury balance sheet.
It does not have to be repaid by General Motors, however. It will be repaid when the Gov decides to sell their shares, which as I've stated, is something that GM has no control over.
Do you have the same opinion about the million dollar bonuses bankers and Wall street execs are paying themselves after the bailout?
I don't see how there is a difference. No bailouts should have happened...and no bonuses should have been paid whether it was to GM or any of the banks. They were all crooks. If you run your business poorly then you should get what you deserve...but they didn't Those businesses should have crashed and burned and then we actually might be on the road to recovery instead of the looming hole before us.
Unlimited corporate power results in tenant farming, slave labor, unbreathable air and poisonous water all in the name of profit. Unlimited government is just about as effective in creating human misery. Humans have tried both and decided that unlimited corporatism or government is harmful to everyone's health and longevity.
OP – When the US Treasury decides to sell the GM stock we will find out if it was a good monetary investment or not. It has already been an excellent social investment.

Can you cite the opinion of a single economist who believes that the US would be better off today had GM liquidated in early 2009?
And let's not talk about our brilliant economists They have done so well for this country
I'm just saying - you're the one claiming that the US would be better off today had GM liquidated in early 2009. I'm wondering if you have anything to back that up in terms of evidence, data, expert opinion of any economist, or if you're just making crap up because you're as angry as I am about what happened.
Isn't it rather common sense that we pumped billions into GM to keep it from failing and then it declared bankruptcy anyhow?
All we did was forestall the inevitable at huge taxpayer cost.
The only reason it's still in business now is because it got bankruptcy protection.
