Most marriages end in divorce.

Who cares if someone is married or not?
It's not your business.
Holey moley, people on CD are busy bodies?
It seems to occur most frequently when they can belittle blacks and other minorities.

People would be better off if they minded their own business more than they minded other people's business.

Sheesh.

Sheesh.
Yes, we should all be as tolerant as you.

Some posters want government out of their lives but want government in the lives of others.
It's amazing to see the hypocrisy.

I don't think the issue is illegitimacy so much as it is the maturity of the parents and the level of commitment of the parents.
After all, there are a lot of wonderful, caring and attentive people who are not married or unable to marry who are fabulous parents. Then you have teen moms who for the most part are not emotionally or financially ready to parent another human being. I have long proposed that teens should be given birth control often and freely.

And no, this isn't just about black people.

40% of children are born out of wedlock, but how many actually have communication with both parents? That is the number that matters in todays society.
Out of the 40 % how many single moms can truly raise their children independently, without any form of government assistance? Sorry but it takes a bit more than communication to pay for the cost of raising a kid.

It doesn't matter what race the poster it's. It's an statement that is based on ignorance. Ignorance is the basis of most hatred and bigotry. What more do you need to know?

Thats the real problem; People having kids that are not able to provide for them. I'm not talking Race because working people of all races have to pay the bill! The government takes our money (working Americans) and hands it over to the non-working! This is Socialism at its worst! If you can not provide for your children you should not have children! I not referring to someone that is temporarily down that needs a hand. I'm referring to the life time abusers of the system and people who move to "Our" country and jump on the welfare role as soon as the get here.

There are plenty of single woman that have baby(s) and can provide for their own..this does not apply to them, and many of them do a great job..Kudos! It also applies to the "baby daddy" (Stupid term) who can't keep it zipped who don't take care of their own children!

Government needs to get out of the welfare system because this cow will be dead soon!

The whole race quote from the OP just clouds the issue of the "Non-working" controlling the "Working" through are wonderful government. I'm sure the majority of the people in the country would prefer to have Hard working honest people of any race living next to them vs people nursing off the system for generations!

I don’t.

In the 1960s, roughly 21 percent of black children were born to unwed mothers. The number was lower in the 1950s.

Today baby-mama culture is the norm for African-Americans. There are communities where hardly anyone blinks when a black child gets pregnant, an epidemic highlighted earlier this year when Memphis, Tenn., TV stations reported that an area high school with 978 students (508 of them girls) was home to 90 girls who were either pregnant or already had a baby.

Baby-mama and baby-daddy culture is ingrained in the fabric of African-American culture.

The consequences are dire. You can see them in the sports world.

If there is no family, there is no community. African-American athletes played enormous roles in the social progress we experienced in the 1960s. They tied their plight to that facing the greater African-American community. They took courageous stands for the benefit of the community at large.

Your concern about Black American athletes is hearthwarming. However you might also have the same concern about White American teenage girls.

Single-Parent Families - Demographic Trends

Quote:
Since 1990, births have declined among African-American teens and risen among white teens, who comprise two-thirds of teen mothers. The factors contributing to teen pregnancy and childbirth include lack of close contact with adult role models; peer pressure; family poverty; the perception among many teens that few opportunities for success are available; and inadequate sex education, especially about contraception and family planning (Sidel 1998). Girls who have a positive self-image, high expectations and aspirations for the future, and good relationships with their parents are much less likely to get pregnant than others. The United States has one of the highest rates of teen pregnancy in the world, with 53 births per 1,000 women aged nineteen and younger compared to countries at the lower end of the spectrum such as Denmark (nine births per 1,000), Netherlands (six births per 1,000), and Japan (four births per 1,000). Worldwide adolescents give birth to over 14 million children annually.
It appears from watching the "Maury Show" and MTV's "16 and Pregnant" that "Baby Mamma Culture" is increasingly becoming a part of White American culture. After all they even made a movie about it.

The Race thing seems to always get people motivated to respond to topics and I am also so inclined because I find it to be interesting and stimulating. It usually turns into a circular topic though. It usually gets me thinking about what’s happening on a different level. Might not address the “racial” topic, but would be enlightening and helpful to the population at large and therefore helpful to your "fill in with your favorite group"

The link you have attached brought a couple of things up in my mind. If there are more single woman raising kids by themselves you would think we would have a less stable society with fewer people getting college degrees and beyond. I'm not sure about statistics for College grads but from what I see the colleges are full and people graduating in larger numbers than ever before. I'm sure if you look at it by gender I believe we have more Woman with advanced degrees than ever before. And black woman with degrees has gone through the roof.

There would seem to be an inverse correlation with respect to single or divorced women with children. I believe that one of the contributors is all of the programs that are available for education that may have not been around in the previous generation. I abhor Government medling on almost every level but I believe this is one of those areas where we are getting a good return on investment for our tax dollar. Analogous to the old "Teach a man to fish" quote. Give a Man or woman a degree (and therefore a better salary) and you have a much larger tax base for the rest of their lives .
Regardless, this scenario applies to people who value education and have the time to put into it...Scholarships and grants are "good" in these cases.

That brings us a good percentage of people who have no clue or guidance wrt to education or work ethic. Many children of single mothers fall into this class. Yes, there are children of married couples that could fall into this class, but statistics say this is not an "at risk group" compared the single woman head of household. This is the group that is at greatest risk for the well being of there selves and society. The answer to this one is tougher without controlling the behavior that puts them into this condition in the first place.

ROFL This is why Buddhist Japan, Atheistic Scandinavia have extremely low levels of births out of wedlock.
