Newsflash: Products tend to underperform when used for a different purpose than the one they're designed for. They might as well criticize the F-150 for not seating eight adults.
We, as a country, would have been just fine if they would have failed. But Obama took the opportunity to take control of a powerful company that brought itself (by it's own greed) to it's knees. So yes, he should have let it fail. It's called consequences. So now everything that fails in GM, is Obamas fault. He took that on himself.
If it were just one company and a few hundred thousand employees, we would have been able to deal with it eventually. But it was many companies and millions of employees. That we would not want.
BS, BS, and more BS. Us Canadians also own a good share of GM and that was a decision made by our far right federal conservative government. You just wait and see just how good an investment it was to rescue GM. It will Pay and pay and pay. Not only will the government recoup it's original investment they will get hundreds of times that in Income taxes, corporate taxes and property taxes.
This move saved litterally hundreds of thousands of jobs. Not just in GM but in all the auto parts plants, car dealerships, trucking companies, etc.
If Obama does anything, there will be a certain segment of the population that will moan and complain. He can do nothing right according to all these morons.

I have been very involved in American affairs since 08 and I have to tell you this. I am extremely disappointed in the intellegence shown by millions of American people.
People who have millions of followers hanging on their every word would not have any listeners here in Canada. We have them here too of course but they are standing on a soap box in some park somewhere and their only listeners are the pidgeons and seagulls hoping for a crust or two.
Is it any wonder that the USA is the land of the snake oil salesman, the huckster and con man, the crooked evangelist and the carney barker. There is just something wierd about the American phyche that enables them to be fooled by the same corrupt,lying,self serving con men over and over again.
One answer: Had the Govt not done what it did, GM, Chrysler and Ford, as well as all the ancillary businesses, would be no more. The Chairman of FMC said no less when he praised the Govt efforts. Ford didn't need Govt money because their management had prepared for what was coming years earlier.

sanrene is right. what would have happened, and what should have happened, is that gm and chrysler filed for chapter 11 reorganization. during that time they would still have been building cars, but they would have been forced to sit down with their creditors and the unions and renegotiate all their contracts under court supervision. deals would have been made, and the court would have supervised everything while the legal process continued.

no they went through the government taking over the companies, and screwing the creditors and bond holders, and stock holders, so that obama could have a big splash in the headlines, and make the bogus claim that he saved the auto industry. and the automakers filed for reorganization, NOT liquidation.

Firstly I very much doubt you are in tune to US affairs, you have proven time and time again how spaced out and disconnected from reality you really are, honestly do not try to portray yourself as some expert on anything.
Next concentrate on the growing Tea Party and Conservative movement in your own country. There have been rallies hosted, significant amount of funds raised. Hell Sarah Palin even made 6 figures from a speech in Hamilton (Hepburn: Sarah Palin and Tea Party anger in Canada - thestar.com) Who was funding this? Americans? Sounds like you have something to worry about in your own backyard.
