The current tax cuts have not been in place long enough to even attempt to be taken as evidence for such claims, which have historically been proven to be untrue.

Initial jobless claims declining isn't the same as more people working, and adding jobs doesn't mean the unemployment rate declines.

You do realize a person who has been out of work for two years isn't counted by BLS, right?

I guess the OP is a bit off...

Does the official unemployment rate exclude people who have stopped
looking for work?

Yes; however, there are separate estimates of persons outside the labor force who
want a job, including those who have stopped looking because they believe no jobs
are available (discouraged workers).

Perhaps this is just too simple for the fedgov. to use when figuring out employed/unemployed but....

Wouldn't it be easier to simply ask questions like:
Are you working?
How many hours a week?

If not working do you want a job?
How long have you been without a job?

Seems needlessly classifying people in subcategories just muddies the water.

Only Gallup is screwed.

Why is the phone poll by the BLS somehow better than the phone poll by Gallup?

not true.. tax cuts are for the year, meaning January they would have started to see changes. Business budget FOR THE YEAR, and when they see tax cuts which affect their bottom line, they hire NOW.. They dont wait till December to hire because they would only get a prorated discount.. the earlier they hire, the better the cuts..

Because the BLS seasonably adjusts the numbers and tweaks them

Because Gallup is just a pathetic non-partisan professional polling company in business for 75 years, the BLS is a flawless government agency that has never been wrong.
