Huh?

Quote:
The fast-talking Frank speaks only English, though his own brand of English.

Frank also took a witty jab at certain anti-immigration arguments. “Lazy people don’t immigrate. I mean, who gets up and goes to a foreign country where they don’t speak the language and they don’t have any contacts?
What about those on welfare?

I can speak French, English and Spanish.I'm learning Russian now !
But hey, English is the world language, I guess other languages aren't essential in the US.

I wish I spoke a second language.

Speaking a second language is a sign of education and effort. While I'm sure Frank was saying what he did to win points with the La Raza crowd, there is nothing wrong with speaking a second language. In fact, I find it virtuous and wish I could do it myself.

Sigh.

So you move to my country voluntarily. You refuse to learn my language. You are not bilingual. And the real problem is that I don't speak YOUR language?

And people wonder why ordinary Americans feel so much hatred for illegal migrants and their misguided supporters . . .

I adore Frank. But he's completely wrong on this one. The latino lobby needs to tell their people to gain English fluency not whine that Americans don't speak Spanish. All I think when I hear this sort of arrogant nonsense is that you'll have to force me at gunpoint first.

No American should be at an economic disadvantage because of lazy colonizers pretending to be immigrants.

FYI, I happen to be bilingual. But my second language is not Spanish and never ever will be.

If you cannot speak our language, either learn it or go back to your own country. If I moved to Mexico, I would learn Spanish because it is the language spoken there.

Default ‘The problem is that not enough of us are bilingual.”

More Americans should pick up a second language, Spanish or otherwise. On the few occasions I've been abroad, I've always been very impressed with the number of foreigners who spoke English and spoke it well. In lots of countries, students going on to college have to be fluent in English, because all the textbooks are in English. Publishers won't print editions in some languages because they don't represent a large enough market.

I figure if they can do it, we should be able to, also.

I would hope Frank meant not enough La Raza members are bilingual.
But knowing how he and his ilk think, doubt it.
