In a nutshell:

THINGS ARE FINE! Shops are closed because of rolling blackouts. Not because it's dangerous. People are not going out, because transportation is hard because trains are not going as often and are overcrowded. People are leaving ... because it's basically a free vacation.

And he makes a good point

OP says things are fine but the locals need the Potassium Iodide pills. Make up you mind, which is it?

The University of Kansas recalled all its students studying in Japan today to return to the US due to the travel advisory issued by the US State Department.

Generally it is better to stay inside rather than go outside into the radiation. At least a structure and HVAC filters give some limited protection.

From an American in Tokyo? I was under the impression there is a completely different story in Northern Japan. Something like thousands of people missing, dead or living in deplorable conditions. Scant food and water. Freezing temps. Whole cities gone. The threat of a meltdown. Countries telling their citizens to get out. US military ordered 50 miles back.

Well that all sounds really great. I guess we should just forget about the people in Japan.

The local need the drug more than the poanicing westerners to have the drug avalble if needed. basically it scommo to be given to chidren even with lower doses to avoid tyroid problems.this is 9-11 type disaster at all and not nearly as localised as to just earthqauke damage alone.Funny nowwesterners are experts on what is happening across the pacfic.

You can just bet there is a cover-up on just how bad things are. Far too many stories coming out on the economy. Money trumps people.
