The record companies are suing Limewire for 75 TRILLION dollars.

Limewire Being Sued For 75 Trillion - Slashdot

Darn, this is more than then GDP of the entire world in 2010:

List of countries by GDP (nominal) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

When it comes to greed the record companies are the worst pigs in the world.

Of course if they get awarded this amount they'll pay off the national debt of every country in the world, right?

Not one penny of what they get awarded will be paid to the musicians of course........

Wow, can't accuse them of not aiming high
Truth is, the music industry has been taking it on the chin from pirated music, and limewire is just one small part of the picture.I recall reading that there is only a single CD pressing plant left in the US.

What goes around comes around.

For years the record companies controlled the market by charging ridiculous prices for CD's.

They had every right to do so.

I paid it because I chose to.

I do not download music illegally, but I don't blame those who do.

Theft is theft. If you wouldn't steal a DVD from Best Buy or Walmart, you shouldn't download music and movies that you haven't paid for.

Agree - but tell that to the college-age-and-younger crowd and most will just laugh at you. They're so used to getting it for free that the thought of having to pay for it seems ridiculous.

Which is why the record companies are going about this all wrong..

What they should be doing is planting music on limewire, which can be traced, then they can go after the end users. Its no different then methods law enforcement uses to go after people who trade child porn..

Don't you find it strange that nothing was ever said about taping music in the days before the internet?...I think we all did it too.

Today we have U Tube....

It was on such a small scale that it barely mattered. It's now so easy to steal a gazillion songs that something has to be done about it. I completely support artists and anyone in the entertainment industry who goes after pirates and thieves.

anywhere care to start a thread stating how the US Justice system is corrupt, in that they take seriously copyright infringement of the Hollywood elites, but not copyright infringement of porn producers?

In the US , everything is political. Especially the Judicial branch.

ps. whoever, says the judicial branch/supreme court are an unbiased , supreme group of thinkers of the constitution are complete airheads.
