Coupled with falling home prices, should be great for savers. Not so good for upside down losers.

Oh, I dunno, how about a massive tax increase or runaway spending or union domination of public employees. Just to name a few.

Definitely a big thumbs up for the new congress, stopping any crippling legislation from being passed.

And if you study the data you do see lower numbers.
March 2010 had 11 million unemployed on benefits (all UE programs)
March 2011 has 8.7 million unemployed on benefits (all UE programs)

But we've only added 1.5 million jobs for those 2.3 million folks that came off the rolls.
Of those 1.5 million 230K are from the birth/death model (Feb/Mar 2011) which aren't verified yet so that's about 1.3 million actual jobs for 2.3 million folks.

To get to that you have to read about 3 different reports, the DOL spreadsheet and do the math yourself. I've posted the links below with that data..all government reports.

The numbers are decreasing but it is worrisome that there are more folks that came off the rolls than jobs available for them and most are in health care and leisure/hospitality industries.

Employment Situation Summary

The participation rate is 64%. There were just over 920,000 people who just gave up looking for a job.

While not ideal and not what the country wants, it's a very good update to the economy.
