NBC/WSJ poll.

First Read - First Thoughts: Next up

Quote:
As we mentioned on Friday, the American public doesn’t support it. In our NBC/WSJ poll, only 16% said that Congress should raise the debt ceiling, versus 46% who said it shouldn’t. When respondents were told that the U.S. would default on its debt payments if the debt ceiling WASN’T raised, that 16% increased to just 32%, while the anti-number jumped a tad higher, to 62%.
THE HILL POLL: Voters oppose raising the $14.3T debt ceiling - TheHill.com

Quote:
Only 27 percent of likely voters favor raising the nation’s $14.3 trillion debt ceiling, while 62 percent oppose it, according to an exclusive poll for The Hill.

The poll found solid opposition from Republicans and also from independent voters, who are critical to President Obama’s re-election in 2012.
Oh MY. What will the democrats do now? Once again, they are on the wrong side of the issue.

You can bet, there WILL be substantial cuts needed in order for the ceiling to be raised. I would like to see spending cuts deep enough where we wouldn't have to.

Don't worry. The RINOs in the GOP will see to it that the debt ceiling is raised. And it WILL be raised with conditions or not. 99% of our politicians don't have that strong of a backbone

Wasn't Obama against raising the debt ceiling when he was just a peon Senator? Or was that his previous stance. Might have to take the flip-flop award from John Kerry and give it to Obama.

They need to cut EVERYTHING. Defense, entitlements, and other discretionary spending MUST go and the states need to start picking up the slack. The states can deliver, if they wish, these services at a much cheaper and customized way than the federal government can. Each state knows what's best for their people

Yeah it sucks when you realize that you can't keep living off of borrowed money your entire life. Time to learn some painful lessons.

How about raising taxes, maybe the republicans are on the wrong side of the issue by not making fiscal sense. You want wars, but you want less taxes, so we borrow extensively from China. Do you not think we are going to have to pay for this somewhere? What is your idea. I say we could stand to cut defense, I bet you don't agree with that. Do you want us cutting your future medicare payments? I bet not. Why not raise taxes, I would be willing to pay them, and I am in a high income bracket. What's wrong with all who don't? It's definately not patriotic.

Oh you say the states should take over...and we trust their responsibility. How about Texas where we're funding every new highway as a toll road, our education system is broken for lack of funding, and we have one of the highest poverty rates in the country. Thank god for Rick Perry, he really knows what the people want. Taxes pay for the infrastructure we use everyday, we've been cutting services for the last 30 years, it started with Reagan. How much more can you cut? No more National Parks, no more museums, no more art. All so we can give the rich more tax breaks, how much sense does that make? For the common man, none? You're so busy worrying about abortion and racism, your screwing your own life down the toilet voting for republicans and tea partiers.

You got that right. How can we be a "Nation" or "Society" if we are too in it for ourselves? "You are on your own Jack, I Got MINE" is unpatriotic as all hell.
