Florida State Sen. Gary Siplin's long quest to get the law behind baggy pants bans is nearing fruition. Siplin's bill to make it illegal for students on campuses to wear clothes exposing their underwear has passed the state Senate, and a similar bill is making its way through the House, reports the Orlando Sentinel. The maximum penalty for offenders would be a 3-day school suspension.
Baggy Pants Ban Zips Though Florida Senate - Saggy pants bill passes state Senate

Ridiculous. This should be left to school districts to decide. As long as students aren't exposing their genitals or buttocks, they should be able to wear whatever they want at a public school.

Ban it if I can see your underwear. Also ban it if your pants are so tight I can see the outline of your junk.

This is good, I fully support this law.

But the "baggy pants" trend seems to be going out of fashion. At least where I live in Florida, you rarely see teen boys wearing their pants low like they used to a few years ago.

Clothing rules used to be far more strict than they are now. It used to be illegal for females to wear skirts and pants out in public expect for at the beach or in your yard. It was illegal for men to walk around without a shirt and for them to have their hair longer than the tip of their ears. Schools used to only permit females to wear pants when it was cold, but even still, they had to wear a skirt or dress over the pant. All boys had to wear collared shirts with a stiff collar, have their shirts tucked in and have their hair cut short and neatly combed to the side. Same with girls, they had to have their hair fixed up or curled in some way, they couldn't leave their hair straight down.

In keeping with my libertarian bent , Unfortunately I have to agree with you, but I must say, every time I see some dumb ass walking around with his crotch around his knees and 1 hand permanently designated to holding up his pants I want to go up and just slap the living sh*t out of him. You cant fix stupid.....or legislate it for that matter.

True. Schools should decide this not politicians. I feel the same way when I see these goofs walking around like that and im somewhat young. Trends and fashion are bs when it results in looking like an idiot. Why put pants on if its going to be at your knees you morons?

But as you said, this has no business being decided by legislation unless its for those who expose themselves or something, which im pretty sure there's already law on.

With so many important issues going on in the country and world today, THIS is what the politicians are making a fuss about? Absolutely sickening. As far as the issue is concerned, it should be left up to the individual school districts.

Allowing overly baggy pants has two issues.

One the idiots with no moral values who walk around with their boxers showing needs to be arrested for indecent exposure.

Most of them allow them to hang below their cheeks and this is totally disgusting to have to see.

Second, baggy clothing at schools is a perfect place to hide weapons and we surely do not need that.

What happened to kids dressing with decency and with some values?

Schools need to have the right to have a dress code.

I know ours does. And it is strict. If you were your pants hanging down past your crack you are sent to detention and your parents are called.
No open sleeves on boys or girls. No shorts higher then your arms length etc. No slogans or political stuff on shirts.

Students should wear uniforms. That would eliminate all these issues.

Schools should dictate, no state law required.
