Jesus wasn't against the rich, he was against people who put money before God.
...I tell you the truth, it is hard for a rich man to enter the kingdom of heaven. Again I tell you, it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God.
Funny nothing about putting money before anything…

If you look at the scripture that immediately preceded that, He asked the rich man sell everything he own, give it to the poor and come follow Him.
Why Evangelicals Hate Jesus « religiousintelligence.com (http://www.religiousintelligence.com/christianity/why-evangelicals-hate-jesus/ - broken link)
a quick snip that well-represents the article text:
They can't make up their mind if they love jesus or the OLD testament GOD.
An eye for an eye etc etc.
Its all in the bible and the teachings they don't like to limit themselves to love and forgiveness after all they have to punish someone for the way the world is.
Now give me your dollars in the collection box so we can spread this message of love, hate and do as I say not as I do.

a quick snip that well-represents the article text:
Quote:
Jesus unambiguously preached mercy and forgiveness. These are supposed to be cardinal virtues of the Christian faith. And yet Evangelicals are the most supportive of the death penalty, draconian sentencing, punitive punishment over rehabilitation, and the governmental use of torture

Let me help you out.
Love is the overarching theme in the Bible, and the principles taught support that.
Regarding the black bold text -
Genesis 9:6 - "Whoever sheds man's blood, By man his blood shall be shed, For in the image of God He made man.
Exodus 21:12 - "He who strikes a man so that he dies shall surely be put to death.
Romans 13:4 - But if you do what is evil, be afraid; for it does not bear the sword for nothing; for it is a minister of God, an avenger who brings wrath on the one who practices evil.
The goal is to deter the evil act of murder of an innocent man. Self defense is an exception. The government is allowed to kill as a penalty.
-----------------------
Regarding the blue bold text...
The Bible supports self defense.
Abraham had trained men for defensive purposes (Gen. 14:13-16). There is nothing wrong with weapons for defensive and protection purposes. Self defense is not murder - it is love for those whom you are protecting.
------------------------
Regarding the green...
Greed is not supported in the Bible.
1 Timothy 6:10 - For the love of money is a root of all sorts of evil, and some by longing for it have wandered away from the faith and pierced themselves with many griefs.
There is nothing wrong with the capitalist system. Some people are greedy. People usually don't change. If they are greedy in capitalism, they are greedy in socialism also. Socialism just takes away the freedom for a person to live out their greed.
-------------------------
Regarding the red...
Jesus never taught socialism. Jesus came to set people (spiritually) free. Socialism can't allow people to be free.
I don't disagree that the government should help people out on occasion, but the Bible teaches...
1- People should be working. 2 Thessalonians 3:10-11 - For even when we were with you, we used to give you this order: if anyone is not willing to work, then he is not to eat, either. For we hear that some among you are leading an undisciplined life, doing no work at all, but acting like busybodies.
and
2- You do not go into debt.
There are a bunch of verses on this. Our government probably has spent us into debt that is very likely unrecoverable and put us under the monetary controls of other interests. They should not be giving out money when they are in debt.
