Panetta at Defense? That's like the Godfather promoting Fredo to Consiglieri.

Hillary at State and Leon at DoD. What a pair to draw to.

More and more, the incompetence of our government is beginning to reflect the dietary willpower of our citizenry.

Petraeus is the one who declared/initiated the 2 current wars, ordering the troops into afghanistan and iraq?

Can someone point me to the adult section of the forum, I seem to be stuck somewhere between Mr. Rogers' neighborhood and romper room here...

Just as when Powell was made Secretary of State rather than Defense, it was thoug'ht a civilian should be in charge of the military, not a career soldier. I think Petraeus will do fine with the CIA in the Directors seat, which is mostly political anyway (talking to congress, etc. public relations). Panetta, on the other hand, is going to be as useless as Defense Secretary as he was CIA Director. Obama seems determined to emasculate our military.

That is an over-polite understatement.

No, but good question:
Article One, Section Eight of the Constitution states "Congress shall have the power to declare war"

Quote:
“This is the kind of fight we’re in for the rest of our lives and probably our kids’ lives,” - Gen. David H.Petraeus
I'm pretty sure promoting the concept of multi-generational/indefinite war qualifies Petraeus as a war monger.

Ron Paul........end the fed, disband the CIA, defund the military industrial complex....take back our country!
Ron Paul wants to "disband the CIA?" I need to look into this. I'm all for a seismic shift in government policy, but this alone would keep me from voting for the guy.

Well, Panetta is likely to call for a 50% reduction in defense spending, as he did back in the 90s. All fine and dandy IF we get out of these wars already. To do so while still engaged in these wars would hurt our troops. While I agree with the reduction in spending, I do hope it's done intelligently.

So mentioning that this war does not have an easy, forseeable end makes him a "war monger"? Do you expect to be taken seriously on this forum?

I don't know what Ron Paul said on this issue but maybe he thinks there is too much overlap between the CIA, the NSA and Military Intelligence so that we don't need all three. You know maybe he's coming at it from a spending point of view rather than a view about intelligence.
