"President Barack Obama plans to name CIA Director Leon Panetta as the next secretary of defense and move Gen. David Petraeus, now running the war in Afghanistan, into the CIA chief's job in a major shuffle of the nation's national security leadership, administration and other sources said Wednesday. The changes would probably take effect this summer."

I'm not getting this. Wouldn't Petraeus be the natural for the Defense job? Anyone have any insight? I know Gates said he was retiring. I just don't get this particular move. Panetta was a politician, lawyer and professor and Clinton's Chief of Staff. What the heck does he know about the military/Defense?

It's very rare to put a recently retired General/Admiral into the Sec of Defense job. I think he would be a great choice as SecDef.

As for Panetta, that is a very curious choice. He did serve as an Army officer for two years though.

The US economy and the US government are controlled by the Pentagon and Wallstreet bankers/financiers. This is why the US has been in perpetual war for the last 100 years and why we keep sending our kids off to die for the 60 families that control our country. LOL...........but yeah!

Ron Paul........end the fed, disband the CIA, defund the military industrial complex....take back our country!

Further instability abroad reaps huge profits for Wallstreet and the bankers. But yeah you're right! It's been this way since WWII. Perpetual war........US has been a war economy for 200 years. The bankers profit huge from war.

WTOP.com - AP sources: Panetta to Pentagon, Petraeus to CIA

Notice the same old faces turn up year after year- regardless of the party which holds the presidency. Musical chairs. Take your clue about what's really going on and who is really running things by noticing that the same relatively few people are rotated in and out of key positions. I guess we are not supposed to notice this fact.

LOL Obama's mother and grandmother worked for Peter Geithner, ol Timmy's daddy! The entire US government is one big revolving door nowadays. American voters are idiots. Their vote means nothing.

I don't have any doubts of their leadership capabilities. I'm just used to seeing people placed because of their expertise. Maybe, Petraeus is giving Obama agita and he thinks Panetta would be an easier pushover. Petraeus has nothing that I could see in his long career resume related to military intelligence.
