One thing at a time. We've just established our President is in fact an American. I'm sure the president will be on this next.

The shoppers are not running out of money but are running out of CREDIT. Eventually low paid people cannot get by even with the PayDay loan sharks.

With the three stooges in charge of our economy, I wouldn't worry about missing economic bad news.

Of course Wal-Mart will be okay.

The point is that the American people ARE NOT OKAY. We have an imbecile in the white house who does not have an inkling about job creation and economics, thus our collective misery.

Not running out of money, just going elsewhere.
Exactly. Shoppers who had to downgrade during the depths of this depression can go back to higher level stores. Wal-Mart benefits mostly during hard times. So this is actually good news, except for Wal-Mart.

Considering that the cost of basic necessities are up, Best Buy is losing money, and Borders is closing most of its stores, I would suggest that it's a matter of consumers simply consuming less. They don't have money to go elsewhere. Not with $4-5/gal gas and food prices rising double digits.

What stores are these consumers now going to?

Why, Whole Foods and the Farmer's Market of course. Right after they get a double mocha latte from their local fair trade coffee shop.

Best Buy in trouble? Great, I"ll wait for the store closing sale and snag a bargin or two. $1,000 for a TV is an absurdity.
