I am convinced that there is more stupidity in America every year. Our culture is being dumbed down. I do not know if it is because the average IQ of the average person in our country is actually going down, or it is just the advertising industry and media who have decided to dumb down everything to make more money.

Here are some examples of the dumbing down of the American Culture:

Hip Hop Gangster Rap
Rising High School Dropout Rate
The TV News Channel
Tabloids (Paris, Brittany, Lindsey)
Quality of Movies
Multiculturalism
Political Correctness
Instant Messaging instead of talking face to face anymore
================
Is the American culture being dumbed down, or just changing?

The more freedom you lose, the less intelligence it takes to survive.

people are doing it themselves, they sit around watching those stupid TV shows, they use the DVD player to babysit their children and they all are so concerned with material things that they wrap themselves in a little world of their own, I don't see people sitting outside in the evening talking to neighbors and I never see the kids out helping with the lawn mowing, all the kids have cell phones, TV's and computers, I don't remember the last time I saw a bunch of kid's just playing. It's a shame.

I expect a pounding on this but...working moms, and handing kids over to day care providers. These folks grow up with a different view of the world and information than when raised primarily by their parents.

I'll add out of wedlock kids, and high divorce rates too.

I think a lot of it has to do with an instant gratification society. The values of hard work, diligence, and patience have been lost by our youth. There is also a very big entitlement attitude in our nation, people thinking they deserve stuff for no other reason than because they want it.

I don't know we were ever particularly intelligent to begin with. America over the years has been infatuated with such remarkable passtimes as disco, Queen For A Day, eating arsenic, professional wrestling, spirit photography, curtailing masturbation, witch hunting, and even, in the Ohio valley of the 1820s and 30s, the "sport" of eye gouging.

Americans distrust intellectualism.

Let’s see the democrats dominate public education.
Teachers unions control education and are heavy contributors to the democrats.
Could be the dumbing down of America is a democrat plan. The poorly educated typically end up poor and if they vote they typically vote for democrats.
This would insure they have a solid base. The only problem is these poor people rarely vote

So their plan is chasing the vote of people who rarely vote? Very interesting considering that in your words they "dominate public education"

Since you're attemping to make this a partisan issue why don't you tell us about all the great Republican accomplishments in the field of public education?

It is incredibly ironic that the original post about the "dumming" down of America contains spelling, grammatical, and logical mistakes.

Please carry on...
