Another reason for me not to vote for him next election. Unless he turns around in the next year, which I strongly doubt he can, I'm probably going to be forced to vote either for Mitt Romney, independent, or I just won't vote. No way in hell will I vote either for Rick Perry or for Michele Bachmann. Bachmann is proving to be even dumber than Sarah Palin with an additional note of being on a crusade to make life for homosexuals a living hell. I'm not homosexual, but I have a big problem with people being discriminated against on the basis of race or sexual preference, so long as they aren't serial killers or pedophiles. Rick Perry's lack of belief in evolution scares the crap out of me. I believe in God, but I also believe in evolution...how can anybody deny evolution when there is scientific proof of it.

No kidding. At least 50% of the reason for going to war with Iraq had to do with oil. And what did it get us? More expensive gas prices. I'm glad Saddam is dead, but the U.S. basically got nothing good out of that war otherwise. At least Obama was smart enough to stay out of Libya.

1) The previous post was written in June. This is October 1. Gas prices have retreated from the June highs.

2) inflation is very low, even though the right wing has been claiming for three years that loose monetary policy was going to bring hyper-inflation. Not only didn't it, it didn't even bring inflation.

3) The topic title is absurd. Obama has no control over monetary policy. That is the domain of the Federal Reserve. So, blaming him for any monetary policy is misplaced.

Do they buy it with special "speculator" dollars or do they use standard US currency?

This thread is obsolete. It was formed when gas prices had spiked as a way of the right-wing to blame Obama. Gas prices have fallen to their previous levels.
The OP should print a retraction or apology for wasting our time.

Their previous levels?

When obama took over gas was approx $1.80 a gallon.

What is it now?

About $3.60 where I live.

You are being partisanly dishonest. The price of gasoline collapsed by inauguration day and, of course, that's the price you quote:

But just six months before Obama's inauguration, the price of gasoline was over four dollars. And now, the price of gasoline is about $3.50/gal., about what it was in 2007.

It would be foolish to even suggest that gasoline prices would have been any different has McCain won the 2008 election -- and this whole thread is foolish for trying to make that indictment against Obama. As the above chart clearly shows, gasoline prices fluctuate and isn't out-of-line from the last 5-6 years of history -- so the charge isn't even true.

To attempt to point to one specific thing or person, simple shows ignorance.

You are very correct that a numbers of factors have worked in unison to increase the price of gasoline, but none of these factors is more significant that out current weak US dollar. The periods when gasoline has approached or exceeded an inflation adjusted price of $4/gal has been when the dollar has been at its weakest.

The convenient argument that wealthy white oil speculators are driving up the price of oil may give the Marxists something to whine about, but these same enemies of the people would be reluctant to go all in were it not for us doing everything imaginable to keep supplies low and demand high. The risk they take investing in highly speculative oil futures is mitigated by our actions (or inaction). Were we to take positive steps to increase supply and reduce our demand, those who presently bet against us would have no choice but to bet against our suppliers. In that case, the same individuals who are presently credited with driving the price up would just as effectively drive the price down.
